Tear of a Doll

Aggressive & packed with dynamic colourful sounds

About Me

TEAR OF A DOLL is a band from Paris mixing Hardcore punk with other influences to create a mind-blowing sound. Such mix of HC with something else (experimental, japan noise, prog-rock, indian music...) might be familiar to some of you by now... But just note that we recorded this stuff 12 years ago.
Tear of a Doll sings in several languages : english, French, Japanese, German & Hungarian (This is an heritage from French hardcore punk pioneer HEIMAT-LOS : We were formed by 3 members of that band in 1988).
All tracks are from our full-length album recorded in 1996 except the song about GMO (OGM pour les français) was released in 1999 on a sampler EP with Melt Banana, God is My Co-pilot and Camp Blackfoot (Erase-Yer-Head 9).
Amongst ourselves, we (as well as friends of the band) call ourselves T.O.D.
This profile is mainly run by Naing Naing (T.O.D.'s guitarist).
So see official website for free MP3, discography, lyrics, reviews, etc. www.tearofadoll.com

History : T.O.D. was formed as a sequel to HEIMAT-LOS in late 1988 right after that band split up. At time we also had a second guitarist : Nydeu (ex-KROMOZOM 4) and we played melodic hardcore punk with occasional influences from two new styles that were emerging at that time in North America: Jazzcore (?) (Victims Family / NoMeansNo) and the Washington D.C. post-HC scene (Fugazi). At that time we did only one EP: our unreleased first album from that era will be out at last in 2007 on Ratbone Rds.
A separate Myspace profile is dedicated to the first T.O.D. area (Hardcore punk featuring at times a few melodies).
In 1992 as we were suffering considerable line-up changes, we try to turn it into something positive: the creation of a new style of hardcore music that we called at that time "Experimental Hardcore" for lack of a better term (but Space Hardcore, Avant-garde rock, Noise, Weird-core, proto math-rock and "Confidential thrash" might also apply.). Our influences ranged from MAGMA to SIEGE.
Trivia : T.O.D. had six different drummers.
The 5th drummer was from TROTTEL (Hungary).
When Orkhan (drummer 6, a lover of King Crimson & Captain Beefheart that can play hardcore) joined the band in 1993, he said "you sound like Mr BUNGLE", a band we've never heard of at that time. His girlfriend was importing a few copies of BOREDOMS, RUINS & NAKED CITY records at a major record shop in Paris. Those rare records (at that time) became another influence (althrough we were already heading in that direction anyway).
In 1994 we changed our name from TEARS OF A DOLL to TEAR OF A DOLL. The idea came from FLOX.
Our best record is the full length CD recorded in 1996 right before guitarist Francois disappeared for years in Myanmar (Burma). Afterwards, during the last 10 years T.O.D. was most of the time in stand-by but Astrid and Naing Naing (new name of our guitarist) produced an experimental song "What about food, released on a split EP with the great MELT BANANA, GOD IS MY CO-PILOT and CAMP BLACKFOOT (1999) and another one that was completely done through the mail between Rangoon and Paris for the tribute to Poison Idea "Hangover Heartattack".
What members of T.O.D. are currently doing: Orhan plays drums for NOSFELL, Astrid (vocals) is doing MISS MAYA, Francois T. (bass) lives in southern France and François L. (guitar) is doing NAING NAING and he came back for real to Paris in 2006 after spending 6 - 7 years in Burma...
Since November 2006, Francois and Maya have been performing together on stage at the NAING NAING concerts (see Naing Naing's profile).
June 2007 : We already started writing new songs but it will take time before we work seriously on a new album as Francois is currently quite busy making the 2nd Naing Naing album (2xCD) and Orhan will be touring no-stop with Nosfell this summer.
TEAR OF A DOLL played gigs with bands like NO MEANS NO, VICTIMS FAMILY, 2 BAD, G.I. LOVE, TROTTEL, SNUFF, D.I., KRULL, SHOCKTAWS, A.M.D., ARTLESS, LOFOFORA, PREGNANT, etc.
All songs in the player are from our untitled album recorded in 1996 (60 minutes), self-produced by our label Dodoll Rds and released in co-production with Pandemonium Rds in 1997.
