KEVIN COCO

About Me

2007 is a big year for Kevin Coco bringing a life time journey of pain, joy, experience and hard work he has teamed up with producer and musician Syd Green (Matt Tonks, iota, Dirty Lucy) to record an EP. For the listener the originals are true and musically astounding the songs are being recorded at present and will be ready for your entertainment in the coming new months.
Kevin Coco truly has an interesting story to tell. Music has been bred into his blood. Over time and space, this dynamic lead guitarist has created a unique style of his own. His old school roots have been firmly implanted into his formula.
Starting out young in 1976 he formed Golden Harvest, one of New Zealand’s great rock bands, winning album of the year in 1978. In 1976, the rise to stardom soon begins as Kevin Coco is the opening act for Helen Ready. Soon after in 1977 and to a crowd of 45 000 people, he supports Electric Light Orchestra Band.
One of the most memorable moments in Kevin Coco’s life was supporting the legendary Bob Marley to a massive audience of 45 000 people in 1978, one of the most greatest moments to remember in history. Kevin’s words about meeting Bob Marley are “most humble man one could ever meet, a true star ”.
On a whirlwind tour Kevin also performed at the Nambassa Woodstock Festival (75,000 people). Some of the acts to perform alongside Kevin were Split Enz, Dragon, Sharon O’Neil & Dave Doblin. As his cutting edge and distinctive lead guitar became more renowned, Kevin’s band Golden Harvest then went on to support The Little River Band . Can it seriously get any better than that!
Traveling all over the world, he put roots down in Australia and proved himself yet again with his undisputable talent. Winning ‘Guitarist of the Year 1989’ and by 1991 he started a super band up by the name of “Eruption” which stirred up the scene and created havoc wherever they performed. With a fan base too large to comprehend, their style of music contained a mixture of blues rock with a touch of heavy metal.
Another tremendous moment in Kevin’s career. Keen to play and expand his awareness to fans all over Australia, he started a show of his idol, the legendary “JIMI HENDRIX ” .This show gave people more insight of how Kevin could push the boundaries of guitar playing and blow people away and mesmerize his audience with technique. Playing lead guitar is challenging, but to play with your teeth and behind your back is just plain mind-boggling. Well Kevin does it, and even the most complex songs seem effortless.
2004 - Growing with time and space, Kevin formed a band “Hidden Treasure” with his daughter Penny Coco. The two created a truly original sound incorporating old school blues/rock with a modern day feel. The mix was fresh and exciting, keeping you keen to hear more.
2006/2007 - Kevin’s plan of action is to yet again to astound audiences. For all who appreciate and admire a good musician, Kevin Coco is worth checking out and as he would say “I’ll See Ya Round ”.
