About Me

.. ..
Here is a sliver of insight "about me".
Never having formal art training, I've studied paintings extensively in London, Paris, Vienna, Germany, Prague and most of Europe. I'd like to say I pawed over paintings in Italia, but the women and men where so distracting that I couldnt even get into a museum. Sorry Peggy Guggenheim... but Venice, in particular...is a living, thriving 3D painting. It's a place where fantasy and reality mesh into one.
I spend hours entranced with a single painting..It was rather funny how the guards at the Tate Museum in London watched me carefully , since I would sit and stare at Waterhouse for hours, arriving when the doors opened and staying all day. I would stare and melt into artwork...memorizing and embedding the visions in my mind..often creating images in my head of how the artist would pause and look at their work, the scents ,sounds, rain , or the blanket of night shrouding the artist at their most private and silent moments with canvas and paint. I often wonder if the artist is lonely..and finds pure solace within the brush, shape and colors they hold at the tip of a brush within their fingertips.
True stories behind paintings fascinate me..such as Sir John Everett Millais and his painting of Elizabeth Siddall as Ophelia.
I was captivated by art from childhood. I've kept a church bulletin from parochial school the principal sent my parents with the reprimand...
"This is how she spends her time in church".
Spellbound by half naked angels winged and ascending in radiant stained glass... I scrawled them on church bulletins, hymnals, and the back of bibles. I used the 'offering envelope pencil' and wonder if the dull pencils left behind indicated numerous offerings to whom ever sat in the same pew later. Angels and demons living in church windows spoke volumes over the scriptures found inside the same walls.
I'm drawn to women, warriors, mystics, and beasts.
Once I found a muse who embodied all these elements. Or , as time has revealed, I created these elements in her.. unfortunately through my own unraveling of seeing what I desire to see, not always what is reality. The experience, both ecstatic and torturous, had an extremely haunting effect on my creative psyche. I've caged this muse...metaphorically speaking...and a beautiful bird escaped with the key...so the story ends in limbo..I suppose my illusion will eventually perish...like a window blured by rain...until the face and shape are no longer visible...and the memory fades as if looking into a pond and a ripple disturbs the once clear vision sillouetted against a moving sky...ah yes, as Rossetti and many artists can attest..a muse obsession is nothing short of emotional bondage.
Painting is a spiritual experience for me and it would be a blessing if that magic translated to the viewer.
I like to change things around in here and often rotate my top friends because there are brilliant artists here. I hope someone passing through might find the treasures of those artists and friends. So, if you've made it this far, delve deeper..I promise you will find souls you feel you've known, felt and find assured enrichment to see their artistry.
Wishing all who venture here...an experience.
love, Syndra
