My Tampa Bay Obama O-Train At St. Pete Pride video
Ãœber Olber
I have a tremendous amount of respect for Keith Olbermann. It seems that he is the only television newscaster today who is willing to risk speaking truth to power; a 21st Century version of Edward R. Murrow. (Keith's other special commentaries can be found in my video section)

Music:
Here's a name - Lorna Bracewell. I encourage anyone who likes modern folk rock stylings to visit her page and listen to her tracks. I bought her latest studio CD, "God Forbid," and it's one of the most impressive albums from ANY artist that I've heard in the past few years. She has delightful word plays in her lyrics, the arrangements are great, and her voice has an such an incredibly sexy growl. And then there's her guitar artistry. Great!!
Be sure to check out the tracks "Litany," "Sometimes I Dream," "Driving Home" and my absolute favorite on the album "Fall Into Me." I'm darned proud to be one of Lorna's friends. (How did Tampa get so lucky to have so many great talents???)
Below is a clip of Lorna performing "Fall Into Me." (Thank you Lorna for letting me put this up.)

I've been playing, writing, recording, and performing off and on since I was 17. I'm a lefty, so I had to teach myself, and it also has meant a constant challenge to find good instruments to play. These days there's probably the best selection of left-handed guitars that has been available in my life time, so I've got the best rack of instruments I've ever had; 3 Ovation Acoustic-Electric's (a right handed shallow bowl that I reversed to left, a full bowl that I keep in Open D tuning, and a 12 string), a Fender Strat and a Precision bass. I also work with a Roland keyboard. There's a left handed Turner Model 1 in my future too.
My style and songs bridge rock, folk, and country. And, just for kicks, I've been messin' around with some Punk lately. I heard so much great music from the Indie artists here that the fire to actively get back into performing is being rekindled. I blame this squarely on Lorna, Lexi, and Ken. And, if I'm gonna do this, the Tampa / Orlando / Key West areas seem ideal to get back 'out there.' So, as soon as I'm comfortable and confident that I've shaken off the rust, I'll be back out there.
I have a home recording studio. Way back 'in the day,' I started with two 2 track machines and the Les Paul method. From there I moved up to 4 track, then 8 track, and now I'm using a delightful 24 track digital machine from Tascam.
I'm constantly in awe of Lindsey Buckingham's talent on the guitar. I got to see him on his recent tour, up close and personal, and he is simply amazing! It took a day and a half for my hearing to return. LOL
Movies:
I'm a big fan of the classic, curved widescreen, epics of the 50's and 60's. "How The West Was Won," in it's original Cinerama format. It made such an impression on me, driving me into a desire to work in film.
Speilberg is one of my favorite directors, but on the other end of the spectrum there's Kevin Smith.
I have a wide range of tastes, but the only thing I really dislike these days is violence simply for the sake of violence.
Television:
Major league fan of the Stargate franchise. Painkiller Jane is so refreshing and different. I thought Studio 60 was wonderful. Now, I'm hooked on Eddie Izzard's The Riches. Boston Legal, The Unit, Criminal Minds, Medium, and the original CSI round me out. Oh, yes, of course The L Word, Queer As Folk are there too.
Books:
Dean Koontz and his Golden Retriever Trixie Koontz, dog, top my list. I love politics, and devour all the books on current events and history I can get my hands on.
Heroes:
My Miriam, and all of my straight friends who have the courage to stand beside me, even when it isn't popular.
I'd like to also mention Lorna Bracewell and Lexi Pierson who have inspired me to haul out my old songs, refresh them, and get back on stage again. Thanks, sistas.
I remember it distinctly - it was 1970, and I was sitting the waiting room of the free clinic (don't ask!). Suddenly, I became aware of the music playing through the great stereo system the clinic had.... always set to WMMS. It was this soulful voice accompanied by an acoustic guitar with amazing presence. It was Cat Steven, and the song was "Where Do The Children Play."
On my way home, I stopped at Record Rendezvous and bought a copy of his album, "Tea For The Tillerman." I wound up staying up most of the night listening to the album over and over - through speakers, through headphones. I was just in awe of the recording style the producer, Paul Samwell Smith, had employed to capture this unique music. The guitars, the bass, the violin and piano, the drums... all sounded, to me at any rate, so better and so different than any acoustic music I'd heard before. The singer's voice, and his words, just entrancing! I was swept away.Cat Steven, now known as Yusuf Islam has returned to performing after entering a self imposed retirement in 1978. And, here is a new performance of his classic song, "Peace Train;" more apt now than ever before. In this performance, he is surrounded by the musicians who helped make this music so special back then. I hope you can enjoy this as music I have.
And just for comparison's sake, here's Cat. in his 1976 Majik concert tour. performing "Peace Train"
Back in that day, I thought he was pretty hot - one of a very few number of guys who ever caught my eye. Today, I thank God that he's realized his gifts were meant to be shared, and that he's returned to us.
Yusuf recently released a new album of studio work that is contemporary, and yet also a trip back in time. It's called "An Other Cup." If I can find a track to post here, I will.
Thanks to the video section on MySpace, I can show some of the music I enjoy.

Joan Jett - Dirty Deeds
I enjoy this video. It's a great cover of the AC/DC song, but then there's the "make-over" someone thought Joan needed. As I recall, it wasn't long after this that she went with the shaved head look. Hey, either way, she's a beautiful woman.

The Dixie Chicks - I Ain't Ready To Make Nice
The girls were talking to the people who raked them over the coals because they had the nerve to speak out. It fits how I feel regarding some people and issues.

Why didn't I find out about these guys sooner? Oh, yeah, my kids were listening to rap. That's why.
