BIOGRAPHY...
Eva Hertz(a.k.a. Krystyna Curtis) has been making things with her hands since she can remember.
She had a lovely upbringing, despite living in Wolverhampton; a hinterland full of biological oddities (the locals).
As a child, her parents often took Eva & her little brother away from the city on day trips to areas of natural beauty; from towering, leafy forests, to dark, dank caves, which fired her imagination no end. Peering at the intricacies of moss & seeds, or gazing wide-eyed at the ever-changing skies, Eva could often be found creating imaginary worlds in her head.
She was increasingly spellbound by books and films about the fantastically beautiful, yet melancholy or frightening. She enjoyed the way the empathic elements would tear at her heart strings, and revelled in scaring herself silly with horror & ghost stories.
It hit her hard when she grew older and found out that this dreamlike world couldn’t exist. She was saddened by the thought of all the people out there who had been forced into forgetting such things via adulthood, or never known them at all, simply by living in the 'real' world.
With this in mind, Eva resolved to create a world of her own.
Through mixed media artwork & music she hopes to become a catalyst for others to find a sense of magic within themselves, whatever form it may take.
She refuses, point blank, to grow up.

I am fascinated with the juxtaposition of beauty and terror, and it seems you can find great examples of this in rural folk & fairy tales. Most recently I've been using imagery derived from these stories & Czech animation to get ideas for folktale/dream-like scenarios I'm planning to create, in mixed media format.
I am inspired by artists such as Bjork, Jeff Bark, Matthew Barney, Cai Guo Qiang & Simen Johan, and feel I have a particular affinity with their work.
Bjork especially influences my work, as many of her songs are seen as modern fairytales.
"A lot of the lyrics are like little stories about how a strangle little girl has reality thrown in her face, and she uses very dream-like language to describe this."
For example, she describes the song ‘Isobel’ as "…basically the story of a girl who was born in a forest. As she grew older, she realised that the pebbles on the forest floor were actually baby skyscrapers. And as she grew, became a woman, she found herself in a big city, and basically clashed with ‘civilised’ folks. So she would isolate herself, withdraw into a little hut in the forest, and call herself ‘Isobel’, because of the isolation." "There, she would collect moths, and train them to send out her message, which is basically a message of instinct. She would send them out of her window, and they would fly all over the world, and go in front of people’s faces who were functioning with too much logic, until these clever people would click out of this state of being 'sensible'."
This is a similar notion and approach I am attempting to convey in my work; dream-like modern fairytale scenarios, through which I aim to express my own reactions to society.
♥ PRINTS of any artwork you see in the slideshow/My Photos are available on request, priced at £15ea.
♥ All requests for artwork welcome, message me if you need anything designed; from poster & album artwork, to clothing etc etc...(deposit/written brief required before any artwork is actually begun; this is purely to protect my interests as an artist; I have been royally screwed over in the past!)
♥ I work mainly with hand-to-paper (old skool!) illustations, using ink and coloured pencils, or photography. If you want artwork that is more Adobe Illustrator style, feel free to message me with your requests and I will do my best to accomodate them, but generally I only use computers in a minimal way at the moment.
♥ I made this page to further my artwork, and I tend to lose art contacts in the Friends on my usual page, so I will probably accept requests from art/illustration people mostly...
♥ If you want to be friends/chat etc, please request my other page; Eva Hertz in my top friends..
Please ask me if u would like to use a photo/pic.
PLEASE MESSAGE ME FIRST IF YOU WANT TO BE FRIENDS;
