About Me

Born at 4:20 PM PST on 4/20/1970 (for real), my musical ear was shaped by that decade of dancin' decadence. Weaned on a steady diet of AM radio, cartoons, cop shows and K-Tel comps as a kid, the first records I bought with my own cash in grade 2 were Sesame Street Disco and The Village People . Maybe not so impressive (or downright embarassing but what did I know - I was only 7 or 8), but my disco roots do run deep...down to my first vinyl. After that, my weekly allowance money was spent on wax while growing up - so far, still is! Early favourites were Bowie , Motown , Soft Cell , EWF and AC/DC .
Around age 12 my cousin Kevin kicked open the doors of my musical perception and introduced me to dub , Kraftwerk and punk . Hearing Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" on the radio one night a year later (under the covers when I was supposed to be sleeping) was a revelation and sealed the hip hop deal. It was Kraftwerk's techno, dub's spaciness and punk's sociopolitical, um, message all in one exploding-tip po-mo bullet that burst in my brain.
After 10 years of musical ramblings through jazz, reggae, hip hop, techno, rock, country, funk, soul and world music, I was befriended by gruff and seasoned veteran Sideshow Sid through my room mate at the time. He asked what I did with these thousands of records. I told him I listened to them and made mixtapes for friends. He said it was a shame I didn't share my wealth of music with more people and asked me to try DJing with him. I hadn't thought of it that way, gave it a shot and that was that - I haven't looked back since.
Over the last 15 years or so I've lost count of the numbers of gigs I've done, playing everything from raves and clubs to resto-lounges and everything in between, including a stint on radio for a couple years with Calgary's CJSW 90.9 FM. I've played throughout Western Canada and since moving to Montreal in 1999 I've held residencies at various clubs and played plenty parties. I'm perhaps best-known in these parts for my role in the Rockdeep collective, who held down the b-boy/b-girl fort at Saphir for 3 years with members of Solid State break crew and the WeFunk wizards, DJ Static & Professor Groove (a must hear if you love funk and hip hop!).
Having deep crates and an ingrained love for all types of music with soul, my sets these days usually connect-the-dots and take you on detours through side streets and back alleys while traveling the main route of funk, house, disco, hip hop and breaks. Recently I've started experimenting on the production tip and I hope you find something that makes your ears and/or feet happy.
