FALSE HOPE formed what would be known as their original lineup in 1986, with
Greg Cancassi on drums, Scott Eakin on guitar, Dave Evey on vocals, and Chris
Smith on bass. This lineup recorded the "Cease To Exist" demo at Beat
Farm Studios in 1987. Later that same year Scott Eakin exited the band so Chris
Smith switched to guitar. At the same time Dave Araca joined as the bass player
and Scott Silverman was added as second guitar player, Silverman would leave the
band later that same year. In 1988 Greg Cancassi left the band so Dave Araca
switched to drums and Sam Lopiccolo joined as the bass player. This lineup (Evey,
Smith, Lopiccolo, Araca) recorded the "Guilty of Everything" demo in
1989, and some other unreleased tracks in 1990. The band's mix of hardcore and
more free-form stylings (noise, psychedelia) attracted a large following, but
created a musical chasm that led to its break-up. When Evey left in 1990 the
other members went on to form ASPHALT, which released "357 Knockout"
in 1994 on Dark Empire, a label run by INTEGRITY singer Dwid.
Chris Smith, My Minds Eye & Shifty are currently putting
together a CD with the "Cease to Exist" demo, "Guilty of
Everything" demo, the unreleased tracks from 1990 & a few other bonus
tracks. We expect to unleash the CD in 2007 to mark the 20 year anniversary of
the recording of "Cease to Exist". We're looking for help in locating
old flyers, pictures, interview, articles, etc... to include in the CD layout.
We're also looking for those interested in including something about their
memories of FALSE HOPE in the linear notes of the CD. So if you've got images or
