About Me

. What I like: I like books and pirates and cats and alcohol and good food and being done with my dissertation and punk rock and old jazz. I like quirky people with affectations. I like traveling and james joyce and chocolate cake for breakfast and the west side market. I like filling my pockets with cheap candy or bottle rockets. I like paperclips and office supplies. I like pretending I'm a bandito. I like Cleveland. I like creepers. I like words. I like putting words together that have never been together in the history of the English language, like cheese snorkle. I like the (most any) art museum. I like marbles and rubber balls. So does my cat. I like cheese, noodles, and monkeys. I like old things. ......What I don't like: insincere people, non-passionate people; people who are defined by their money, 9-5 jobs, or clothes they wear; television and modern media, that sombitch George Bush (is hate too strong a word? nope), grading papers (I say this with a perpetual stack of essays looking at me all doe-eyed, pining for attention). ......Yarg, but what does that really tell you about me? I'm pretty laid back, I'm very silly once I'm comfortable with the person. I am anti-corporate. I like adventures and making little things into adventures. I teach college, not only because I have an intellectual need to share my passions, but also so that I can instill a critical punk rock ethos into a general public that I see as under the sway of media, of a political machine that propogates sensationalism and a greedy ethos, and of a shallow culture of apathy. ---p.s. Dear (imagined) readers: 1) I have a new Cthulhu ringtone. I thought that I would reconfirm my nerdiness by rereading surprisingly entertaining ol' H.P. Lovecraft (inspired by all the 1-18-08 Abrams m...

The Spider in My Mirror

My housey is above Lake Erie, looking down upon it, separated by a hill, a highway, train tracks, industry, a marina, and a soapbox derby course; not a stone's throw -- but close enough to get breeze,...

Hell is...

Hell is being in the library -- a very quiet library -- and having the hiccups.   Especially when you haven't had them since you were 12.   Hell.
