I've gotten sick of modern Hollywood films, and let's face it; the whole indie scene has become as stale as the establishment they were originally rebelling against. So I started going back to the Golden Age of Porn, roughly from the release of DEEP THROAT in 1972 to NEW WAVE HOOKERS in 1985. This was the period where smut was taken seriously, shot on film with rehearsals, sets, and original scores, and on many occasions, magic was created.
At their best, such as THE OPENING OF MISTY BEETHOVEN, the porn films could out do the mainstream films on many levels. However even at their worst, the Golden Age porn film is still an artifact from a forgotten age, as stylized as Film Noir before it - they all feature the waka juwaka guitars, Afros, thick blue eye shadow, and enough pubic hair to make a carpet - and just as cheap and gritty.
This site is not about how many erections one gets during a film – as many of these films have lost their erotic fire over the years – it is about the films as an art form. These maverick filmmakers, casts and crews defied the laws and mores of society to create loops about innocent pizza boys and horny housewives; it might seem absurd in retrospect, but they really did break open the gates for artistic freedom - even if it was all done for cocaine money.
One of the things I hope to accomplish is to review films that don’t seem to be reviewed on the web. As the adult industry keeps pouring product onto the market, a lot of titles get overlooked, and I want to fill in the gaps (pun intended) I’ve found on sites like RAME.Net. I should also note that only a few contemporary and post-Golden Age films impress me, but I’ll be mentioning the ones worth checking out.
