Time to actually read a book, you've got to be kidding! But when I do have time, I enjoy mystery, ghost stories, and thoughtful fiction.A very special friend of mine has just published her first novel. She is a wonderful person with terrific insight. Her book has finally been released in the States. Here are a few of the reviews:
"No matter how many more novels I read this year, Souvenir will remain in my top recommendations. More than the topics, more than the setting, more than the plot -- Fowler's storytelling is what makes this novel shine." ~Durham, NC Herald-Sun
"In Souvenir, Therese Fowler explores how our choices can both haunt us and heal us, and shows how love, complicated and imperfect though it may be, is the greatest power of all. Riveting, insightful, and written with stunning beauty and grace, this will be the book people talk about in 2008." ~Judy Merrill Larsen, author of All The Numbers
"Fowler's debut novel is so touching and emotional that it's impossible to put it down. The power of enduring love is an ever-present force in this dramatic novel, one that touches the reader's heart and soul." Romantic Times Book Reviews 4-1/2 out of 4-1/2 stars: Fantastic
"Souvenir is tender, touching, and completely compelling. I cared so much about these characters, couldn't put the novel down, read through the night. Therese Fowler writes with such wisdom about young love, intense and impossible choices, and the way one decision can affect an entire life." ~New York Times Bestselling author Luanne Rice

Lis and her "Dit"...another reason I love these people:And it IS something to think about...Posted by Lissy:Why I love my dit
Current mood: homesickI call my dad "dit" or "daddy-o"- He's been my ditty since before p-diddy even thought about the name. He's my best friend for so many reasons but yesterday he posted a blog that was totally perfect and really made me feel so full of pride and so lucky to have him.I don't agree with everything that he wrote- but I do think he's 99% right on. So I thought I would repost it to give more people a chance to read it. Please do the same if it rings true to you.It has been with some degree of sadness and resignation that I have watched the polarization and vitriol devolving between the Obamameter and Clintonoid devotees. There is some to like about both candidates (not the least of which is they are not GWB) and much not to like, if you believe (as I do) that our country has been hijacked by crypto-fascist thugs.Call me jaded, but if neither candidate has shown leadership in standing up to --* illegal rendition and torture
* warrantless wiretapping and surveillance of political opponents
* an illegal, preemptive war based on manufactured intelligence
* Presidential signing statements that boast an unheard of contempt for the constitution - the assertion of a unitary theory of executive power which transforms our system of coequal branches of government designed for checks and balances to something tantamount to a monarchy accountable to no one
* suspension of habeas corpus
* obscene war-profiteering and no-bid contracts (awarded to incompetent corporate cronies) that through the rubric of privatization belies a horrific lack of value for human life at the expense of obscene corporate profit
* wholesale election fraud and disenfranchisement of African-Americans voters
* suspension of Posse Comitatus and the use of a private mercenary army on American soil (New Orleans during Katrina)-- if neither candidate has shown any leadership (particularly as senators mandated specifically with this type of oversight) -- what is it that convinces these Obameters and Clintonoids that their candidate of choice, if elected President, would show the leadership and courage to speak out against these transgressions? Our self-awareness of our complicity and blood on our hands must spoken aloud again and again until it is burned into the consciousness of every American, awaking us to our misdeeds perhaps as Germany awoke from its Nazi nightmare and self-corrected its national psyche in order to lessen the chances that such a mass psychosis would happen again.I will support either Democratic candidate. I will vote. I do believe in the importance of sound public and foreign policy. But people, PLEASE, let's put this thing in perspective. This is not a sports competition. Vote your conscience. And then don't give up WHEN your candidate disappoints. Keep the pressure on and organize loudly -- loud enough so they know it comes from us: not the pundits, not the main stream media, not the moneyed interests -- organize loud enough so they know it's from We The People.Success is a long shot, but if we don't, failure is inevitable and the consequences unthinkable. To paraphrase Ani Difranco, what will you tell your kids when they ask you "But did you do all you could do?"
My little tribute to "The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Erwin".
Thanks for the hours and hours of fun and learning over the years. My prayers and condolences to your beautiful family. May you rest in peace and may the world never forget all that you have taught us about God's most awesome creatures.
