Absynth*

The roaring 1990's, Chicago.

About Me

Formed in '93 by Mimi Wallman and Carlo Giammarese (R.I.P), we shared devilish laughter and goosebumps while mixing up our psychic brew. After about 5 songs were done, Carl suggested Todd Witter on the drums. We attempted to add a female guitarist, then auditioned my boyfriend (Steve, who I was in another band with called Appendix--a conflict of interests-perhaps?)--and then I recalled a guitarist who had left a lasting impression on me: Dan Pearson. Things just took off from there. We played all the right venues--with an eye toward performance, had one of our songs implanted onto a Ragstock commercial (before it was cool to do that!) called "Angel," won second place in a Q101 battle of the bands for Woodstock, became the focus (negatively--due to my portrayal of Jesus) of a Radio DJ who is no longer employed in Chicago, had just started to gain entry when Carl disappeared inexplicably into the Rave culture. Todd left for Wisconsin unfortunately before we finally were in a position to record our demo. David Suycott did the honors in Todd's absence. Carl made it to a couple of sessions playing bass on "Touch" and "Harrowin'" and vanished again, this time into a hospital unbeknownst to us--and was replaced by myself on bass for the song called "She." With Carl incommunicado, and no way to contact Todd, Dan & I continued tracking and then the producer, Howie Beno was pulled--who had the good grace to give notice enough so that "Letter" a collaboration between he & I (Brian Sarche all guitars) was included at the end. That's the saccharin Reader's Digest condensed version, folks!...Absynth had memorable shows...I'll be posting pics as I find time. It was Carl's biggest regret--not seeing Absynth reach it's potential, and I promised him I would get the music out someday..so here ya go myspace, cheers.
