LIT TO THE GILLS

About Me

San Francisco – A City of Writers
Litquake 2008 October 3-11 (Number 9)
at various venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area

Litquake Schedule 2008: Available for Your Perusing Pleasure!
Check it out! www.litquake.org .
The party’s over for 2008, and what a party it was! We’ve finally finished totaling the numbers, and we surpassed our goal of 11,000 attendees: a total of 11,186 folks engaged in the Litquake madness. That’s an average of 728 attendees per day, not counting Crawl events; with the Crawl, the daily average was 1,242 people per day. (You did notice the events were, shall we say, “lively”—didn’t you?)
We have numerous ideas for expansion for next year (no clues yet). But until we start working on 2009, you can feed your Litquake need by reliving the schedule or checking your favorite authors’ bios for ideas on what to read next.
Thanks to our sponsors, donors, volunteers, authors and other participants — and our audience!— for making this the best Litquake yet. See you next year.
Bay Area Literary Events
From time to time, Litquake is pleased to share information about literary events held by our friends and allies. We'll post the latest information to the My Space bulletin board, right out of the pipe. If you are a listed friend, you will most definitely receive an invite to all of our Litquake events.
About Litquake
Unlike other literary festivals that must import name authors in order to stage their events, 85% of authors appearing in Litquake reside in the Bay Area. Litquake represents a lively overview of San Francisco’s thriving literary scene. Our live events embrace the Bay Area writing community, and give fans the opportunity to hear quality literature straight from the author’s mouth. And you never quite know what will happen.
It all started in January 2002, when a group of San Francisco writers and media folks met up and started working on the idea of a festival that would be a literary version of the city’s music, film, and cultural festivals. We wanted it to be diverse and inclusive - a mix of readings, panel discussions, themed events, and general literary mayhem - from a wide range of Bay Area authors. And we definitely didn’t want it to be boring.
Litquake is produced by the Litquake Literary project, and could not exist without its relationship with sponsors, including fiscal sponsor Intersection for the Arts and allied literary and community groups.
Litquake needs your help!
Putting on an event the size of Litquake is complex and takes a substantial amount of time and resources – more than most people realize. Because we host tons of free events, including Litcrawl, we need your support. Your support has helped Litquake get this far. We’re very grateful for that. Now we’re asking you to help us in taking it to the next level.
