Ok, not to be totally self-obsessed but...
My book HOW TO RAISE YOUR PARENTS is on sale!!
How cool is that?!?! I still can't believe it's real.
Also, check out all the media that's covering me book: Teen Vogue interviewed me for a feature in their April issue (check it out!) and CosmoGIRL! asked me to write a story for their June/July issue. Not to mention M-Teen Magazine, Justine magazine, and a bunch of others that are writing about my book! I seriously feel like this is the best Christmas ever. I'm giddy every morning.
I'm just finishing copy editing for my second book BOYOLOGY 101 (which is about dating and guys, obviously) and I have a third book in the works.
The third book is on friendship and I need your help again! I really want to know what your biggest issues are with friends. What makes a good friend and what are your biggest friendship issues? My high school was a tamer version of Mean Girls but definitely not Little House on the Prarie. What's it like for you? Just message me!
Ok, and a few more details for those curious minds that want to know:
- I've lived all over (born in Houston, then moved to Dallas, then Atlanta, then Seattle, then Salt Lake and now New York. I loved them all but I think I'm a New Yorker at heart).
- I'm married to the greatest guy on the planet (sorry, ladies, he's mine!). His name is Grant and he gets hotter and funnier every year. I am SO lucky.
- I am learning how to cook. My New Year's resolution was to cook at least once a week and considering that the year is coming to an end :( I really should know how to make something other than chili and crock-pot chicken by now...
- I am constantly torn between getting a tattoo and not getting one. Maybe one day I'll just break out and do it. I kind of want a canary but Grant tells me that's kind of wussy. But what do guys know about tattoos? I've seen guys with Taz on their chests. Hmmm....
- I always sing along to songs but I NEVER know the right words. At least I'm smart enough to turn the music up really loud so you can't tell.

My Interests

Reading, skiing, riding my road bike along the Hudson, Tasti D Lite, riding my Vespa, anything crafty (I'm learning to sew), travel--Morocco is next on the list, red lipstick, writing, Grant, our canary Avey, jazz, fashion week parties, npr, handbags, salsa (the actual food, not the music although that's cool too), Audrey Hepburn, fall in NY, Neil Simon plays, cheap manicures and pedicures, the Sunday Styles section, afternoon naps, did I say Grant?, making up my own lyrics to songs, running into old friends, road trips, Cafe Lalo, free diet coke refills, the mountains, the Book Review, ok--the entire Times but only online, the KGB bar, Capri, when Grant makes me dinner, that new-book smell, humming, my niece Abbie Jane, pants you don't have to wear belts with, natural light!!, Montauk, Edward Hopper, decrepit architecture, The Great Gatsby, Gawker.com, Domino magazine

Music:

My all-time, better than any other song on the planet is Crimson and Clover. You just can't top that. I also just got into this old school 70s singer Donovan--you know the Mellow Yellow song? His whole album is good. Also: I still love Vanessa Carlton even though she hasn't done anything in a long time. Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Justin Timberlake, The Velvet Underground, Kathleen Edwards, Cat Power (her new album deserves all the rave reviews it's getting), Kanye West, Bruce Springsteen, Miles Davis, Zero 7, old school Wyclef Jean, I'm getting back into REM, the music in Carmen, Leonard Cohen, an occasional dose of Brian Eno.

Movies:

Don't laugh, but one movie you MUST see is Josie and the Pussycats--you probably missed it in theaters but it's one of those silly movies that's is actually smarter than it looks. The whole thing pokes fun at itself. Oh, and I'm totally addicted to Planet Earth. I swear, every time I watch it I think I'm never going to buy another plastic water bottle again (and then I get thirsty when I'm downtown and cave in). And: Hot Fuzz, Little Miss Sunshine, Shakespeare in Love (best date movie ever), Amelie (Who doesn't love Amelie?), Dr. Zhivago, Wonder Boys, Rushmore, Bottle Rocket (love OLD Luke Wilson--not the new chubby, frat-boy Luke Wilson), Office Space (a classic), and there are about 100 movies on my Netflix queue that I move around every day.

Television:

My new favorite is the HBO show The Wire. The writing is so amazing and the actors really pull it off. I feel like I'm living in inner-city Baltimore when I watch it. I just wish this fifth season wasn't the last. I'm going through major withdrawal without new eposides of The Office. Also can't get enough of Grey's Anatomy and Law & Order (I think I may have seen every single episode and I STILL find myself watching the re-runs. Does that make me totally lame?)

Books:

My latest favorites are The Post Birthday World by Lionel Shriver--she is such a good writer!--and Everybody Into the Pool by Beth Lisick--one of the funniest women I've ever read!Old-time classics I can't live without are: The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion, Safekeeping by Abigail Thomas, Liars & Saints and A Family Daughter by Maile Meloy, Self Help by Lorrie Moore, Are you There God? It's Me Margaret by Judy Blume, 1984 by George Orwell, The Awakening by Kate Chopin, Good Night Moon, Dubliners by James Joyce, Ex Libris by Anne Fadiman, The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, Heartburn by Nora Ephron, all of Henrik Ibsen's plays

Heroes:

Grant, my parents, Joan Didion, my best friend Kathy, Carmindy, my canary Avey (he's really dumb but VERY cute and fluffy), people who ride Vespas in NYC traffic, Nora Ephron, Jennie, Annie, Katie, Connor, my friend Chrissy who can totally rock a pearl-necklace and not look too Upper Eastside, Georgia Nicholson, and if I've ever told you that you're my hero, I meant it. I don't say that to everyone. I just forgot to put it here.
