About Me

My new CD, "National Geographic", is out now. Sonically, lyrically and spritually, it's by far my rawest, most personal and most honest effort. Recorded mostly in one take on a single afternoon late last year, these compositions (unlike my earlier work) for the most part draw directly from my own life and recent history; and explore themes like the search for spiritual and emotional truth, the quest for identity in an increasingly atomised post-industrial landscape, sexuality and the true nature of peace. If this doesn't read too well, I should say in my defence that I'm a much better songwriter than I am a publicist!! Also, one or two of the tracks are more upbeat than this blurb might suggest... The full tracklisting is as follows: 1) Dink's Song (Trad) 2) If 3) I Will Search Again 4) You Treat Me Like A Child 5) Local Girls 6) Waiting to Cross 7) Irony Has Wounded Me 8) Surnames 9) To Find Myself, or Lose Myself 10) Hush-a-Bye.To buy a copy, UK residents please send a cheque for £6 (p&p inc) payable to D.J.G. Burton to 21 The Limes, Erdington, Birmingham B24 8AF...and don't forget to include your name and address. US residents can simply send me $12 IN BILLS ONLY-NO COINS PLEASE to the same address. If you live elsewhere and would like a copy, get in touch and we can sort something out.OTHER INFORMATION: I've a few copies left of two previous CDs, "A Change in the Weather" and "January's Son: The Best of Burton Vol. 1", for the benefit of any completists out there...same price, same payment details. I've gigged in numerous venues of various types across the country and may be available to gig your venue or club depending on availability and whether the fee merits the journey :) I'm now approaching my late twenties, been writing and performing (a mixture of my own compositions and sundry folky covers, mostly traditional) for many years now and can put on a good show for a competitive fee (Don't expect me to play for peanuts, though- I've got a big mouth to feed!). Past accomplishments include acting as support or sharing stages with some folking big names (Hutchings, Carthy, Show of Hands, Kirkpatrick etc. etc.), getting a bit of radio airplay in recent times, winning various singing competitions when I was younger, and last year winning the EFDSS (English Folk Dance and Song Society) 75th Anniversary Songwriting prize for "The Gold Country", arguably my best known song, which isn't up here at the moment though I daresay I'll put it back up at some point in the future.Whether you're already a fan or just stopping by, thank you for visiting and have a great day/evening/night. If you want to contact me, do so on here or alternatively email [email protected], or call/text 07796132040.Enjoy!
