ENOUGH LIGHTNING FOR EVERYONE:
THE STORY OF HER DREAM "Anj's songs are portraits set to music that touch the soul. Her introspective, thoughtful music is a manifestation of true talent and self-expression" - Steve Angelucci, Atlantic City Weekly.
Anj is a singer/songwriter/pianist that exhibits unusual poise and relaxed honesty onstage for a woman in her early twenties. Yet it’s no wonder she is so at home when performing. At age 8 she appeared as Dorothy singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" at Bally Park Place Casino in Atlantic City, in a production of Around the World in 80 Minutes. She captured the hearts of an audience of over 900 people.
In her still young career, this artist gathered a lot of attention from the press along the east coast. She has received favorable press from critics of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Courier Post, The Philadelphia City Paper, Atlantic City Weekly, The Ocean City Sentinel, The Egg Harbor Township Current, National Entertainment, and more.
ANJ has spent the last few years building a steady fan base through performances throughout the tri-state area. She has toured venues such as Ceasars and Bally's Casino in Atlantic City, Grape Street Pub, World Café (WXPN), local festivals such as Arts Alive, NYC's oldest rock club The Bitter End, Rockwood Music Hall, and Café Vivaldi. Anj was asked to perform at the twinning ceremony in San Gregario, Italy and has also performed in Zurich Switzerland.
Anj has a haunting yet strangely confident voice, that is pristine and yet extremely vulnerable. Her live performances have been likened to a one-woman play set to music, as she reaches out to the audience in interludes of conversational poetry that describe the genesis of each song. She demonstrates a beautiful command of her instrument as she tells the story of one who cares too deeply and feels too much and thus is the root of much of her own anguish.
Singing and accompanying herself on grand piano Anj has been at times compared to Janis Ian, Tori Amos, Norah Jones, Laura Nyro and Joni Mitchell, but as is always the way with artists who remain true to themselves, her style is definitely her own.
With the release of a single in 2005, "Praise (Happy Birthday My Father)" and now her second full-length album "When Grey Blushes", released in November 2007, the music industry is beginning to take notice of this rising young songstress. ANJ was asked to perform at the Westin Hotel in Los Angeles at the TAXI music convention, and one of her songs from her recent album was a runner up in the "VH1 Song of the Year" Contest.
She is known amongst fellow musicians, fans and followers, for her unfaltering determination, ambition and committment to her dream of having the world hear her music. When within her company, you will often hear her say"There is enough lightning for everyone to be struck with good fortune, you just need to be willing to stay out in the rain long enough be soaked through to the bone."
So stay tuned: she is truly an artist to watch.
