About Me

Ben Marshall was born in Marshall, MI in 1978. He began playing guitar at the young age of 12 where he studied under Guitarist George Yeatman (Professor at Baltimore and Florida Universities). Ben experimented with many different styles of music, ranging from classical, jazz, pop, folk, Alt. Rock and blues. At the age of 19, Ben attended college in Grand Rapids, MI where his friend introduced him to artists such as Nick Drake, Elliott Smith and Jeff Buckley. Listening to these artists opened a whole new world for Ben. It was at this point that he decided to pursue a career in music. He began playing with local musicians and developed a strong following. In the winter of 2001, Ben began to work on songs for his first solo project entitled Things Left Behind. About a month later, Ben was introduced to local producer/engineer/artist/ Mopic Vagma. Mopic and Ben spent the next three months recording and producing Things Left Behind at Freezing Studios in Grand Rapids. This project received airtime on many independent stations including WYCE and was reviewed by the Grand Rapids Free Press. The Free Press stated, Bens sound is reminiscent of Simon/Garfunkel, Elliott Smith, and Nick Drake, we look forward to hearing more out of this young talent.Currently Ben is performing at local Detroit venues such as The Arch, Xhedos, Smalls, Jacobys, Detroit Taste Festival, Michigan State Fair, The Charlie Stop, Trixies, Wise Fools Pub, The Belmont, The 5th Avenue, The Magic Bag Theater, The Emerald Theater and St. Andrews Hall to name a few. He has just completed his First full-length album entitled "Songs for Everyone" with the assistance of drummer Jeff Cox and engineer Alec Houston. This album is a compilation of new material and re-produced songs from "Things Left Behind". Ben is now promoting himself as an independent artist in the hopes of developing his songs and fan base to spread his music throughout the world. His new album titled "Songs for Everyone" contains 16 original tracks and is now available through his website for only $9.99(includes shipping and handling). Ben is now performing live to support the release of "Songs For Everyone".
