About Me

Andy is an accomplished freelance drummer based in London. A graduate of Leeds College of Music, he is now studying for a Masters in Performance at the Royal Academy of Music where he has been studying under the tuition of Gerard Presencer, Martin France and Pete Churchill.Born into a musical family, Andy began to play the drums at the age of six. During his school years Andy began to take a special interest in jazz music, which inspired him to move to Leeds to study for a BA (Hons) in Jazz Studies, graduating in 2006. After a year working as a freelance drummer in Leeds he moved to London to continue his studies at the Royal Academy of Music.Through his work as a freelance drummer Andy has performed or recorded with such artists as Dennis Rollins, Lewis Porter, the Jim Corry Quartet (of Corinne Bailey Rae), the Matthew Ball Quintet, Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra and Manchester based big band ‘Schwing’. Andy has performed at many of the UK’s top jazz venues, such as Pizza Express (Maidstone), The Pigalle Cub (London), The Sands (Gainsborough), Matt and Phreds (Manchester), The Wardrobe (Leeds) and Ronnie Scott’s (Birmingham); as well as jazz festivals around the UK and Ireland.Andy’s theatre work includes Joan Rivers’ UK Tour (headlining at the London Palladium), and performing aboard the prestigious ‘Serenade of the Seas’ (Royal Caribbean Cruise Line). In addition to his performing Andy teaches percussion privately.

Influences: Some of my favourite drummers include Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Philly Joe Jones, Jack DeJohnette, Brian Blade, Jeff Hamilton, Jeff Ballard, Bill Stewart and Herlin Riley.I have also been lucky enough to recieve tuition from many great jazz educators, including Pete Churchill, Martin France, Gerard Precensor, Barak Schmool, Stan Sulzman, Phil Donkin, Ronnie Bottomly and Tony Faulkner.
