About Me


After a year at Birmingham University, studying jazz saxophone under Anna Brooks at Birmingham Conservatoire, Tom transferred to Leeds College of Music to study for a BA (Hons) Jazz Studies under Joel Purnell. A member of the Al Wood Big Band, the LCM Duke Ellington Repertory Orchestra and the CUK Big Band, Tom was awarded the University Armes Prize, the Dave Cooper Memorial Prize for Saxophone and the George Murphey Trophy for Saxophone and the University Armes Prize by LCM in 2006 and graduated with a first class honours degree. Now studying for a MMus at the Royal Academy of Music (London), Tom now receives tuition from Iain Ballamy, Tim Garland, Martin Speake, Stan Sulzmann, Andy Panayi, Pete Churchill, Gerard Presencer, and Barak Schmool.

As a commerical player Tom has supported the Fun Lovin' Criminals on their European tour '05 (as part of nu-jazz/hip-hop group Cantaloop), played in Joan Rivers' on-stage band '06 and with the Offical Tribute to The Blues Brothers (Theatre Show) '07

As a writer on jazz, Tom has contributed to The Leeds Guide, Northern Exposure and The Yorkshire Evening Post.
