Beyond how special my family is in my life, music has always been my absolute PASSION! I grew up with music around me all the time. I always felt way down deep inside that I wanted to make music my career, though on the surface I tried a few other things. My focus now is to become a fulltime songwriter in Nashville and the way things are working right now I'm right on target.
I especially love to co-write. My most favorite co-writer is my buddy, James Odle, Jr. from down near Houston.
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area I now call Nashville home. It's been a dream of mine for many years, and finally this dream has come true. If you live anywhere near Nashville, or will be coming to town, and are interested in co-writing let me know! If you're not in the area, drop me a line anyway. James and I have been co-writing for over 7 years through e-mail and we're darn good at it! Plus, we're always looking for great talent to add to our "circle".
It's still hard to believe that I'm finally here in Nashville!!!! Everything fell into place WAY ahead of schedule and my calendar is constantly busy with co-writing opportunities! But I'm ALWAYS looking for MORE! SO many doors have been opening for me, and everyone's been SO supportive and encouraging, and there's already a lot of contacts I've made over the years that have welcomed me to town!! This is just SO amazing!!!
I've always enjoyed the creative side of life. I was a freelance photographer for over 5 years, mostly shooting nature and cityscapes and selling to corporate and private collections, as well as interior designers and decorators. I also enjoyed shooting famous performers like Neil Diamond, Mickey Newbury, The Righteous Brothers, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt, Celine Dion, The Moody Blues, Chuck Mangione, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis. Jr. I even have some awesome shots of Neil that are better than his staff photographers shot!
I've always loved to write. I wrote my first stories just for fun when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, then started writing poetry for extra credit in 8th grade (well, ok, the truth is I was in love with my first girlfriend so I wrote them for her and another friend found out and encouraged me to turn them in to my English teacher for the extra credit). A few months after getting my first guitar as a freshman in high school I started writing my own songs. Once I hit college my poetry and songwriting were a constant source of release of my emotions. It just seemed so much easier to say in writing what I couldn't say face to face.
My musical interests took a different twist when I became a radio DJ in the San Francisco area, doing the "Midnight Ride" from Midnight to 6am at an Adult Contemporary station. During those 5 years I learned a lot about the music industry that has helped me since I left radio and began devoting my time and efforts to my songwriting.
Lately my creative pursuits beyond songwriting have included web design. You can check out two of my personal sites at http://www.jacecarlton.com/ and http://www.changeyourstars.com/ .
