About Me

ALL POETRY AND WRITING COPYRIGHT PROTECTED@MACILYN ---------- A QUOTE BY MY LATE COUSIN~~~~~***“...the image is one thing and the human being is another...it’s very hard to live up to an image.”“ ‘Til we meet you again, may God bless you. Adios.” ELVIS A. PRESLEY***************************************** Pat Emmett Buttram...in memory of my Uncle! June 19, 1916-January 8, 1995~~~*************************************** "
I DO MY OWN THING AND YOU DO YOUR OWN THING. I AM NOT IN THIS WORLD TO LIVE UP TO YOUR EXPECTATIUONS, AND YOU ARE NOT HERE TO LIVE UP TO MINE. YOU ARE YOU, AND I AM I, AND IF BY CHANCE WE FIND EACH OTHER, IT'S beautiful.
My first love is medicine of course and helping others. I think I was put on this earth to help others and that is what I love to do best! Playing with my Chow Chow, which I do not get a lot of time to do. Reading, writing poetry, horseback riding, anything outdoors, college football~~~~GO MIAMI HURRICANES~~the Beach, the ocean, just to stand beside it is and think "how magnificent." Still there is tragedy all around. People are still displaced from the Hurricanes last year, which should have been taken care of by now, but has not! I have hope that our nation will recover and once again be the leader of the free world. God help us if another Hurricane with the force of Katrina hits while you're in office, Mr bush! I love to learn all about what is going on in Washington, DC, no matter how biased and tainted it may be. It is our country. I am interested in the Laws that are before Congress, and keep an eye on the ones that pass and the ones that do not. (As well as on whom voted for them, as best I can) I am helping sponsor a law to help change the voting system in our country so that we will not just have a repeat and the Supreme Court chooses our President, but so that every citizen, just like Politicians are able to do right now, can go to city hall and see their vote was counted. It is your RIGHT, one of many, so why wouldn't you want to know? (the Bill is HHR-550, in case you want to write your representatives and let them know you sponsor it, millions already have done so.) I would love to see younger people get involved with community and Government. We need more Doctors, Scientists, if we are to fight the many illnesses that are facing us that we still do not have cures for, and those we aren't even close to finding a cure for yet. The environment and its habitat~~~why must men kill endangered species~~~I do not accept this and never will, nor do I accept using them as specimens in a lab for testing where they are given horrible diseases, maybe for mankind, but AT what PRICE are will we pay I love ANIMALS, and they give the purest form of unconditional love. ******** I love anything adventurous, especially if it isn't something I have done before. Reading, taking long walks, especially at night along the beach. I love the Caribbean Islands, the Oceans, Seas, Stars, anything of Nature, and the Caribbean is a wonderful place to view such beauty and magnificence and go there as often as I can. ******** On a much Personal note~~~~~~this is in memory of my nephew, who passed away before he was 22, and my Uncle who passed away December 24,2005, Christmas Evening, and for those I love, that watch over me daily from the Heavens above! ******** **Just yesterday morning, we were laughing, talking, playing cards together~~~~Today, I am here with your family and friends to bury you. **To bury a Parent, a Spouse, a Grandparent is hard; but to bury your own Child goes against nature, and the pain which words cannot tell. **You died knowing you were dying, but you were not afraid. You were just 22, but wise beyond your age, and now you know the answers to all questions. **I will look for you, I will look for you always. I will see you in every beautiful flower, every sunset, and in every beautiful thing. **Everything of beauty will forever be you. Anything young and proud; Anything good and strong. **For us who are left remains to wonder at the reasons of such waste. Where has all this love gone? I hope your Journey has been good, for you have already arrived~~~Fly high~~~fly high above the clouds and soar~~~~for we love you so. Until we see you again~~~~ Jan. 03, 2005 ******** Favorite Gadgets Tool of the Trade: (Medical) ******** I write a lot of Poetry, but it is a very personal thing for me, but this is one you might find comical. It is truly amazing what you can see, then tell about, by just sitting and looking! ******** Dixie Cup ******** Dixie cup victim of vicious prejudiced wind as it is picked up and blown wild the tumbling acrobat then bounces off the worn curb to pick up a new orbit determined only by the dominance of the wind someone will say ah trash and eventually pick it up for whatever reasons but to the innocent eye of a child it is surely magical sure as Santa and the changing seasons ~~~JMU~~~ ************************************************* Occupation Medical Profession~~~~******** A Dear And Sweet Friend sent me This, and it Was too lovely not to let others share ******** Thanks Drew, it is truly lovely and endearing ******** Right now my thoughts are of dad. Thanking him for my love of the ocean. The ocean has brought me very far away, but it has also brought me back. I think back on our sailing days. When I was young, oh how I loved to sail. Atones's, one with the sea, one with the wind. It's about the only time I really felt like I fit into the big picture. Where I felt like I had control of the big picture or well, maybe a tiny piece of a massive puzzle. I think about the way my little piece interlocks and interacts with all of those other little pieces, each important in their own little way. How we are all helping to sustain one another. I am headed across this great ocean called the North Atlantic. Looking down at it as it supports my very life. How many million people have traveled across your many fathoms? How many dreams have you helped create? How many lives have you taken? How many secrets do you hold? I look about you now and you look so tranquil, so serene yet, just days ago were so angry, filled with rage. As I look about you I see questions. Too many to number and a lifetime to ask. Looking down as the bow cuts through the water, reminds me of how we cut through other peoples live without care, we toss them to one side or the other. As we plow right on through, not a care, we don't even look back, not even to check the wake behind us. How quickly do we do this. Judge by look or appearance, no chance for a rebuttal. As I sit here, I feel alone. There are people about, however, I feel as if I am the only one here. I look into the water once again. It seems to change color, from dark blue to a light blue and every Possible shade in between, I guess like people, always changing colors. As I close my eyes and I feel the sun on my face and as I hear the song of the ocean and the wind through my hair, I am calmed, humbled. I think about all of the many questions I have about life and of love. I wonder if any will ever be answered. This was written while I was crossing the Atlantic Ocean from England to the U.S. in September 1991 ******** ------------------------------------------------------------ Personal Quote: Experience is what you get from reading the small print in a contract; An Education is what you'll get if you don't. ******** ----------------------------------------------------------- A GOOD LAWYER KNOWS THE FACTS; A GREAT LAWYER KNOWS THE JUDGE. ------------------------------------------------------------ "Law, not confusion, is the dominating principle in the universe; Justice, not injustice, is the soul and substance of life; and righteousness, not corruption, is the molding and moving force in the spiritual government of the world.*** "Everyboby has got a Story; Just make sure they don't make YOU their story!"Jan MaciLynFastest Growing Companies- NASCAR: America's Fastest-Growing Sport - FORTUNEeBookscom - The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For? eBookHomeWelcome to the Mensa International web site...Mensa "provides a forum for intellectual exchange among members. Its activities include the exchange of ideas by lectures, discussions, journals, special-interest groups, and local, regional, national, and international gatherings; the investigations of members' opinions and attitudes; and assistance to researchers, inside and outside Mensa, in projects dealing with intelligence or Mensa." [Mensa Constitution]Mensa was founded in England in 1946 by Roland Berrill, a barrister, and Dr. Lance Ware, a scientist and lawyer. They had the idea of forming a society for bright people, the only qualification for membership of which was a high IQ. The original aims were, as they are today, to create a society that is non-political and free from all racial or religious distinctions. The society welcomes people from every walk of life whose IQ is in the top 2% of the population, with the objective of enjoying each other"s company and participating in a wide range of social and cultural activities.Mensa has three stated purposes: to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity, to encourage research in the nature, characteristics and uses of intelligence, and to promote stimulating intellectual and social opportunities for its members.Mensa WorkoutToday there are some 100,000 Mensans in 100 countries throughout the world. There are active Mensa organizations in over 40 countries on every continent except Antarctica. Membership numbers are also available for specific National Groups. What kind of people are Members of Mensa? There is simply no one prevailing characteristic of Mensa members other than high IQ. There are Mensans for whom Mensa provides a sense of family, and others for whom it is a casual social activity. There have been many marriages made in Mensa, but for many people, it is simply a stimulating opportunity for the mind. Most Mensans have a good sense of humor, and they like to talk. And, usually, they have a lot to say.

I just sorta do ‘em all together, I guess.” -Elvis in 1956, talking about his way of moving on stage."I ain't no saint, but I've tried never to do anything that would hurt my family or offend God...I figure all any kid needs is hope and the feeling he or she belongs. If I could do or say anything that would give some kid that feeling, I would believe I had contributed something to the world." -Elvis commenting to a reporter, 1950's.“Don’t criticize what you don’t understand, son. You never walked in that man’s shoes.” -Elvis often used this adaptation of a well-known quotation.“When I was a child, ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books, and I was the hero of the comic book. I saw movies, and I was the hero in the movie. So every dream I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times...I learned very early in life that: ‘Without a song, the day would never end; without a song, a man ain’t got a friend; without a song, the road would never bend - without a song.' So I keep singing a song. Goodnight. Thank you.” -From his acceptance speech for the 1970 Ten Outstanding Young Men of the Nation Award. Given at a ceremony on January 16, 1971. (Elvis quotes from copyrighted material with lines from the song “Without a Song”.)“We do two shows a night for five weeks. A lotta times we’ll go upstairs and sing until daylight - gospel songs. We grew up with it...It more or less puts your mind at ease. It does mine.” -Talking about the informal jam sessions he and the band and entourage enjoy each night during the lengthy Vegas engagements. These happen upstairs in Elvis’ suite at the Las Vegas Hilton as they all try to “wind down” from the excitement and energy of the live shows. Quote is from a 1972 taped interview used in MGM’s documentary Elvis on Tour.“I’ve never gotten over what they call stagefright. I go through it every show. I’m pretty concerned, I’m pretty much thinking about the show. I never get completely comfortable with it, and I don’t let the people around me get comfortable with it, in that I remind them that it’s a new crowd out there, it’s a new audience, and they haven’t seen us before. So it’s got to be like the first time we go on.” -From a 1972 taped interview used in MGM’s documentary Elvis on Tour.“The first time that I appeared on stage, it scared me to death. I really didn’t know what all the yelling was about. I didn’t realize that my body was moving. It’s a natural thing to me. So to the manager backstage I said ‘What’d I do? What’d I do?’ And he said “Whatever it is, go back and do it again’.” -From a 1972 taped interview used in MGM’s documentary Elvis on Tour.“Man, I was tame compared to what they do now. Are you kidding? I didn’t do anything but just jiggle.” -From the press conference prior to his record-breaking Madison Square Garden shows in New York City, 1972.“...the image is one thing and the human being is another...it’s very hard to live up to an image.” -From the press conference prior to his record-breaking Madison Square Garden shows in New York City, 1972.“A live concert to me is exciting because of all the electricity that is generated in the crowd and on stage. It’s my favorite part of the business - live concerts.” -Elvis at a press conference prior to his 1973 television special, Elvis - Aloha from Hawaii, via Satellite.“ ‘Til we meet you again, may God bless you. Adios.” -Said in 1977 at the end of a concert during his last tour.“...the image is one thing and the human being is another...it’s very hard to live up to an image.”“ ‘Til we meet you again, may God bless you. Adios.” -Said in 1977 at the end of a concert during his last tour.“I wanted to say to Elvis Presley and the country that this is a real decent, fine boy.” Ed Sullivan During Elvis’ third appearance on his show, January 6, 1957http://www.elvis.com/elvisology/quotes/aboutelvis.asp, ************************************************************ Quotes About Elvis “Without preamble, the three-piece band cuts loose. In the spotlight, the lanky singer flails furious rhythms on his guitar, every now and then breaking a string. In a pivoting stance, his hips swing sensuously from side to side and his entire body takes on a frantic quiver, as if he had swallowed a jackhammer.” Time Magazine, May 15, 1956"His kind of music is deplorable, a rancid smelling aphrodisiac...It fosters almost totally negative and destructive reactions in young people." Frank Sinatra, 1950's“It isn’t enough to say that Elvis is kind to his parents, sends money home, and is the same unspoiled kid he was before all the commotion began. That still isn’t a free ticket to behave like a sex maniac in public.” Eddie Condon Cosmopolitan, December 1956“I wanted to say to Elvis Presley and the country that this is a real decent, fine boy.” Ed Sullivan During Elvis’ third appearance on his show, January 6, 1957“As the lad himself might say, cut my legs off and call me Shorty! Elvis Presley can act...Acting is his assignment in this shrewdly upholstered showcase, and he does it." Howard Thompson Review of King Creole New York Times, 1958“A Presley picture is the only sure thing in Hollywood.” Hal Wallis Producer of nine of Elvis' films.“There is something magical about watching a man who has lost himself find his way back home...He sang with the kind of power people no longer expect from rock ‘n’ roll singers.” John Landau Review of Elvis, (1968 TV Special).“It was the finest music of his life. If ever there was music that bleeds, this was it.” Greil Marcus From his book, Mystery Train, remembering the 1968 TV Special.“There are several unbelievable things about Elvis, but the most incredible is his staying power in a world where meteoric careers fade like shooting stars.” Newsweek, August 11, 1969 Review of Elvis’ Las Vegas engagement.“...a style and panache that come close to pure magic. Lithe, raunchy, the sweat pouring down his face, he now moves with the precision of an athlete, the grace of a dancer...flamboyant and flashy, sexy and self-mocking, he works with the instincts of a genius to give poetry to the basic rock performance.” W.A. Harbinson From his 1975 book, The Illustrated Elvis. A passage reflecting upon Elvis' 1969 Vegas engagement.“So what it boils down to was Elvis produced his own records. He came to the session, picked the songs, and if something in the arrangement was changed, he was the one to change it. Everything was worked out spontaneously. Nothing was really rehearsed. Many of the important decisions normally made previous to a recording session were made during the session. What it was was a look to the future. Today everybody makes records this way. Back then Elvis was the only one. He was the forerunner of everything that’s record production these days. Consciously or unconsciously, everyone imitated him. People started doing what Elvis did.” Bones Howe Recording Engineer As quoted in Jerry Hopkins’ 1971 book, Elvis, A Biography.“A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man’s music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis.” Jackie Wilson“You have no idea how great he is, really you don’t. You have no comprehension - it’s absolutely impossible. I can’t tell you why he’s so great, but he is. He’s sensational.” Phil Spector“Elvis is the greatest cultural force in the twentieth century. He introduced the beat to everything, music, language, clothes, it’s a whole new social revolution - the 60’s comes from it.” Leonard Bernstein, 1960s."There have been many accolades uttered about Elvis' talent and performances through the years, all of which I agree with wholeheartedly. I shall miss him dearly as a friend. He was a warm, considerate and generous man." Frank Sinatra, 1977“Elvis Presley’s death deprives our country of a part of itself. He was unique, irreplaceable. More than twenty years ago, he burst upon the scene with an impact that was unprecedented and will probably never be equaled. His music and his personality, fusing the styles of white country and black rhythm and blues, permanently changed the face of American popular culture. His following was immense. And he was a symbol to people the world over of the vitality, rebelliousness and good humor of this country.” President Jimmy Carter, 1977. His official statement following Elvis' death.“Elvis had an influence on everybody with his musical approach. He broke the ice for all of us.” Al Green“...At Sun Studio in Memphis Elvis Presley called to life what would soon be known as rock and roll with a voice that bore strains of the Grand Ole Opry and Beale Street, of country and the blues. At that moment, he ensured - instinctively, unknowingly - that pop music would never again be as simple as black and white.” David Fricke Rolling Stone, 1986“He was an instinctive actor...He was quite bright...he was very intelligent...He was not a punk. He was very elegant, sedate, and refined, and sophisticated.” Walter Matthau, who co-starred with Elvis in King Creole (1958). From a 1987 interview.“There have been a lotta tough guys. There have been pretenders. And there have been contenders. But there is only one king.” Bruce Springsteen“...it was like he came along and whispered some dream in everybody’s ear, and somehow we all dreamed it.” Bruce Springsteen“When I first heard Elvis' voice I just knew that I wasn’t going to work for anybody; and nobody was going to be my boss...Hearing him for the first time was like busting out of jail.” Bob Dylan“A lot has been written and said about why he was so great, but I think the best way to appreciate his greatness is just to go back and play some of the old records...Time has a way of being very unkind to old records, but Elvis' keep getting better and better.” Huey Lewis“Elvis was the king. No doubt about it. People like myself, Mick Jagger and all the others only followed in his footsteps.” Rod Stewart“He was a unique artist - an original in an area of imitators.” Mick Jagger“Before Elvis, there was nothing.” John Lennon“This boy had everything. He had the looks, the moves, the manager, and the talent. And he didn’t look like Mr. Ed like a lot of the rest of us did. In the way he looked, way he talked, way he acted - he really was different.” Carl Perkins“I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him. Last time I saw him was at Graceland. We sang Old Blind Barnabus together, a gospel song. I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There’ll never be another like that soul brother. James Brown“He was the firstest with the mostest.” Roy Orbison“That’s my idol, Elvis Presley. If you went to my house, you’d see pictures all over of Elvis. He’s just the greatest entertainer that ever lived. And I think it’s because he had such presence. When Elvis walked into a room, Elvis Presley was in the f***ing room. I don’t give a f*** who was in the room with him, Bogart, Marilyn Monroe.” Eddie Murphy“He was ahead of his time because he had such deep feelings. He had the privilege of deep feelings because he was deeply loved by his mother, Gladys. He was able to appreciate profound beauty in sounds. And he started a musical revolution. They say all revolutions start from love.” Imelda Marcos“It’s rare when an artist’s talent can touch an entire generation of people. It’s even rarer when that same influence affects several generations. Elvis made an imprint on the world of pop music unequaled by any other single performer.” Dick Clark“Elvis Presley was an explorer of vast new landscapes of dream and illusion. He was a man who refused to be told that the best of his dreams would not come true, who refused to be defined by anyone else’s conceptions. This is the goal of democracy, the journey on which every prospective American hero sets out. That Elvis made so much of the journey on his own is reason enough to remember him with the honor and love we reserve for the bravest among us. Such men made the only maps we can trust.” Dave Marsh From his book, Elvis.“It’s always been my dream to come to Madison Square Garden and be the warm-up act for Elvis.” Senator Al Gore Accepting the nomination for vice president at the 1992 Democratic Convention & prior to Bill Clinton's (aka "Elvis" by his security staff) acceptance of the presidential nomination.“You know, Bush is always comparing me to Elvis in sort of unflattering ways. I don’t think Bush would have liked Elvis very much, and that’s just another thing that’s wrong with him.” Bill Clinton During the 1992 presidential campaign."He had total love in his eyes when he performed. He was the total androgenous beauty. I would practice Elvis in front of the mirror when I was twelve or thirteen years old." k.d. lang"I'm sitting in the drive-through and I've got my three girls in the back and this station comes on and it's playing "Jailhouse Rock," the original version, and my girls are jumping up and down, going nuts. I'm looking around at them and they've heard Dad's music all the time and I don't see that out of them." Garth Brooks"Ask anyone. If it hadn't been for Elvis, I don't know where popular music would be. He was the one that started it all off, and he was definitely the start of it for me." Elton John"It was Elvis that got me interested in music. I've been an Elvis fan since I was a kid." Elton John"The first concert I attended was an Elvis concert when I was eleven. Even at that age he made me realize the tremendous effect a performer could have on an audience." Cher"Elvis was a giant and influenced everyone in the business." Isaac Hayes"I learned music listening to Elvis' records. His measurable effect on culture and music was even greater in England than in the States." Mick Fleetwood"I remember Elvis as a young man hanging around the Sun studios. Even then, I knew this kid had a tremendous talent. He was a dynamic young boy. His phraseology, his way of looking at a song, was as unique as Sinatra's. I was a tremendous fan, and had Elvis lived, there would have been no end to his inventiveness." B.B. King"I don't think there is a musician today that hasn't been affected by Elvis' music. His definitive years - 1954-57 - can only be described as rock's cornerstone. He was the original cool." Brian Setzer

Movies:

"The Notebook"-Nicholas Sparks~~~~If you only see one film this year, let it be this one...the director acts like a streetcar conductor, taking you on a ride through the journey of two lives torn by family, money, war, sickness, happiness, joy, unconditional love, space, geography, and any other emotion a human could feel, as he eloquently takes you to a beautiful end! He has written a follow up to this movie and the book is called: "The Wedding." Forrest Gump, Steel Magnolias, Friday Night Lights, Hope Floats, Knotting Hill, Pretty Woman, The Wedding Planner, Where The Heart Is, The Jury, The Pelican Brief, Conspiracy Theory, Foolproof, Under The Tucson Sun, Top Gun, The Perfect Storm, and many others...I like comedies, romantic films, dramatic films, crime and mystery, but nothing with explicit sex scenes or violence.

Television:

MSNBC news, Discovery, A&E, Biography channel, History channel, Comedy and Romance, True stories of faith and triumph, CSI: Miami, Court TV, anything Political or having to do with medicine! College Football~~~GO MIAMI HURRICANES! We miss you Kenny Dorsey! I don't have a lot of time to watch TV, but I rarely miss Football. The season just doesn't last long enough!

Books:

"Purpose driven Life"-Rick Warren, "The Power Of Positive Thinking"-Norman Vincent Peale, "Let The Journey Begin"-Max Lucado, The Bible, "An Unquiet Mind"-Kay Jamison, All John Grisham novels, of course. "Saving Graces" Elizabeth Edwards, "The Notebook" by: Nicholas Sparks and I am reading "The Wedding" which is the follow up to "The Notebook" presently. Knowledge is power and without books, what is there? It is like music to the soul, as God is to the heart, mind and spirit! Althought knowledge in and of itself won't make you smart, (i.e. George W. Bush), it does give you the opportunities to grow and learn about the world and those around you.

Heroes:

.. My Papa, as some would call Grandfather, who from birth until the age of ten and 1/2 taught me the most valuable lessons I know today. He was compassionate, caring, kind, loving, and gentle God-fearing man, who knew his Bible upon which we had many talks. He instilled in me the very essence of humanity and helping each other, for it was why we were placed here. He talked of the ole days of war, peace, no crime, no violence, no hatred toward thy neighbor, and always be willing to lend a helping hand. He would stop and help a stranger no matter what the problem or where, and tell me later...."My child, that could have been you stranded on that street all alone, wouldn't you want someone to help you" Of course, I said, "Yes, Papa. He was the most formidable person to touch my life then, today, or tomorrow, for he helped make me the individual I have become. I would give years off my life to have him back for a few short hours or days, but I know he is beside with each step I take on my journey, and I feel you Papa....And I miss you and love you so~~~~see you in Heaven Papa. And of course my parents who have instilled within me the values, morals and beliefs I have which have carried me through hard times, good times and over all made me a more rounded individual and I Respect them tremendously, as they have been together for 45 years and still are as happy today as if it were 45 years ago, on the day they first met!I Love You Mom And daddy!
