Cemetery Urn was formed in the Australian summer 2006, by Andrew Gillon (Abominator, Bestial Warlust) and Damon Bloodstorm (Corpse Molestation/Bestial Warlust, Abominator, Kutabare). During many....many meetings at the bar throughout 2005 a dark vision of a new band was evolving. The band was primarily created to conjure dark death metal that takes you back to bands from the era '88 - '93, but, also as a 2 guitar touring band, that would provide a vessel for the blokes to take their style of Death to the world. Through the alcoholic haze, a new force in Melbourne Death Metal was emerging. As Andrew was about to enter the studio to complete the recording of the forth devastating full length offering from Abominator, the now complete vision was put on ice until Andrews recording commitments were done. The songwriting commenced in February of 2006 and was then put on hold for 5 weeks in May/June when the blokes embarked on a mission to the U.S. to absorb as much Metal and alcohol as humanly possible.Just prior to the trip the blokes had a chance meeting at a party with an old comrade and drummer in Matt 'Skitz' Sanders (Damaged, Terrorust, Sadistic Execution, Destroyer, Hellspawn, Funerary Pit, Abramelin, Blood Duster, Noir Macabre). After being told of the darkened vision of death being conjured, was instantly recruited to Command the drums. The tracking commenced February 2007 at Three Phase studio’s in Melbourne, under the guidance of Engineer/Producer Sam Johnston.
The line-up on the first full length recording is,
A. Gillon – Guitar and Bass,
D. Bloodstorm – Vocals,
Matt ‘Skitz’ Sanders - Drum’s.
Mixing completed June ’07, by Sam Johnson and Andrew Gillon, at Three Phase Studio.
Matt Skitz left the band after the recording to continue with his other project's.Around this time another chance meeting (at the bar of course!!!) at a Celtic Frost show in Melbourne, saw the addition of another old comrade Squiz on Bass (Fridge, Drednought, Mustang, Vicious Circle). When it became obvious that squiz could still drink like a demon, he was immediately recruited. Later and luckily, by complete coincidence it turned out he could also still play like a demon!!!In July 2007 the band secured world wide distro through Modern Invasion Australia. 'The Urn of Blood' is now available in all the major Death Metal outlet's in the U.S.
In November 2007 Mesa endorsed Andrew Gillon and gave the band full support for touring internationaly.Early 2008 saw the addition of 'X' on Drums and Luke on Guitar, which completed the long awaited brutal 5 piece line up.In April 2008 Cemetery Urn played the first show in Melbourne. In June 2008 Cemetery Urn is touring the U.S. The band is playing around 20 shows across the country with bands such as Gospel of the Horn's, Angel Corpse, Blood Feast, Sanguis Imperem, Embalmer, Profanatica, Morbosidad, Obiesance, Manticore and many more extreme and Black metal band's.The Band will be releasing a 7" by the end of the U.S. summer. Cemetery Urn is also on track to re-enter the studio in late 2008 to record the 2nd full length offering.
Cemetery Urn, from the outset, was created as an independent entity and remains as such to this day. Metal on.
