Petr Cancura

An Imaginative and graceful improviser, Petr Cancura is emerging as one of the finest multi-instrumentalist on the scene today. Born in Czech Republic, Cancura moved to Ottawa, Canada when he was ten and is currently residing in New York City.With a musical personality known for its warmth and imagination, Cancura is sought-after for his original voice. He has recorded with Danilo Perez, Bob Moses and Kathleen Edwards, and has performed with John Lockwood, Joe Morris, Joe Maneri, Cecil McBee and the Juno award-winning Mighty Popo among others. In 2004, Cancura moved to Boston to pursue a Masters degree at the New England Conservatory. During this time, Cancura led many successful groups and projects, including the artistic residency with Boston's prestigious MIM (Modern Improvised Music) Society. Today Cancura continues to perform with artists from all over the world, attesting to his cross-genre versatility. His project PeopleMusic is a wonderful example of Cancuras warmth, imagination and versatility.
