About Me

UCR/California Museum of Photography provides a cultural presence, educational resource, community center and intellectual meeting ground for the university and the general public. The museum’s explorations of photographic media through exhibition, collection, publication, and the web examine the history of photography and showcase current practice in photography and related media. To serve an audience that is multicultural, young and old, general and specialized, presents programs that recognize the variety and complexity of cultural experience and explore the relationship between traditional expression and contemporary practice. The museum is vitally concerned with the intersection of photography, new imaging media, and society. Located off campus in downtown Riverside, UCR/CMP is committed to bringing the most challenging art to the widest possible audience. Check out our RSS Feed for current events and programs.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Support the museum through Zazzle.com

Welcome to the MySpace site of the UCR/California Museum of Photography. Since the early 90s UCR/CMP has been a champion for new digital technology: UCR/CMP was one of the first public institutions in America to host a web site and to integrate public web access into its gallery programs. Now our redesigned site contains hundreds of hours of material providing access to our exhibitions, artist’s projects, collections, and tutorials for computer, digital video, photography and multi-media.I’m delighted that you have found us online. Since you are here, please sign up for our eNews List to receive updates about all our programs and events. And do come to the museum itself, which showcases photography, video and related media, and houses the community access Digital Studio in an extraordinary facility: a renovated art deco Kress Dime store. Our touring exhibitions and motion picture collaborations have also made our projects visible worldwide. During 2006 through 2008, Revolution and Commerce: The Legacy of Korda’s Portrait of Che Guevara is touring the globe and will be seen at major museums in New York, Mexico City, London, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Milan.I hope you'll join us in person and online for many of the projects and exhibitions featured on this web site. And beginning in the summer of 2006 we are pleased to welcome to Riverside’s historic downtown mall our sister UCR presentation facilities: the Sweeney Art Gallery and the Culver Center for the Arts. We will work together under the umbrella of UCR ARTSblock to bring to Riverside, the region, and the world the most accomplished and compelling art of our time.
