Museum of Visual Materials

About Me

Proud to be the oldest building in Warehouse and Courthouse districts in Downtown Sioux Falls (1887); we are the most advanced in green, environment-efficient standards. Our building runs on geothermal heating and cooling and solar-panel energy in addition to electricity. We incorporate rapidly renewable resources such as cork, bamboo and wheat in furniture and flooring. All of our plumbing and electric are low-flow and high-efficiency. We have sewing machines and craft items for the community to use and experiment. We have a demonstration kitchen used for cooking and product demos, and classes. We have coffee, blended specifically for the museum, which visitors can indulge in while relaxing and using our complimentary Wi-Fi. One of our goals is to impact the economy of downtown Sioux Falls and that of the surrounding community.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

The Museum of Visual Materials is looking for guest artists to rent gallery space. We anticipate needing twelve artists per year, each exhibit lasting six weeks. The first space will be available July 25, 2007.We have two gallery walls for local artists. We hope to have two artists at once, on an eight week rotation. (one week load in, 6 week display, one week load out) We're mostly equipped for hanging art but we can made accommodations for a few sculptures. We're still looking at fees, but they will be minimal, somewhere between $60-$0. There will be an application process including an artist statement and examples of your work. If you choose, you can sell your artwork here, leaving the gallery a 20% commission. We also have a gift shop if you'd like to sell prints of your work during your exhibit.
