Concerns Over La Jolla Village Drive Skyscrapers
There has been much concern expressed about the plans for seven new skyscrapers on La Jolla Village Drive. Plans have been approved for three towers west of I-805, but four proposed towers on Genesee are creating quite a controversy. Residents are expressing concerns about added traffic and crowds, and how it will impact the community.
The proposed Monte Verde project had four towers, each with 32-35 stories of apartments or condominiums housing approximately 1,800 residents. The current approved plan began as a 14-story, 400-room hotel. The project has since been amended by proposing 800 units in four 32 to 35 story towers on the 4.77 acre site.
Council President Scott Peters has yet to take a position on this project, and all relevant information is finalized.
The project, located on La Jolla Village Drive just west of I-805, recently received approval on its plans for the La Jolla Common hotel-condominium-office project that will feature three towers, the tallest being 32 stories.
Farewell to Miss China
Miss China restaurant in La Jolla Shores closed its doors on Feb. 1, after having served the La Jolla Shores area for 30 years. The family-owned restaurant, known for great food and warm service, served its final entrees to a crowd of adoring well-wishers and long-time patrons. The evening was filled with memories of good times and great meals, along with flowers, bouquets and even a few tears.
Sea Lodge Hotel on La Jolla Shores Beach changed its name to La Jolla Shores Hotel. The property will remain under the current ownership and operation of La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, Inc.
The improvements to the property began earlier this year when the on-site restaurant, The Shores, was remodeled and a new menu concept implemented, which now offers classic steakhouse favorites and fresh seafood.
The restaurant has fast become a local favorite as the venue of choice for family gatherings, dinner with friends and special events. Future projects include continued exterior building upgrades, as well as guest room interior enhancements in order to update the decor and design elements.
