I am a painter who was active at the turn of the 17th century. My striking naturalism is now credited with jolting the art world out of its dull Mannerist ways and ushering in the Baroque movement, and by extension, the beginning of modern painting. At one point during my short life I was the most famous painter in Italy.
My scenes are frequenty tumultuous, which is fitting because my life was as well. When I am not painting I like being rambunctious, getting into fights and angering my well-to-do patrons so they won't give me any more work and I will have to move. It is alleged that on May 29, 1606 I killed a man, but of course that was never proven.
