"Diamonds on The Beach" was good, but "It's About Time" is so much better. John's original songs, like 'You're Never Alone,' are a nice inclusion to the fantastic covers of the Beach Boy songs. His version of Billy Hinsche's 'Under A Beach Boy Moon' is so much better than the original. The 'Goin'On' cover that he did with Carter Cathcart is one of the best songs on the album. His version of Carl Wilson's 'Heaven' makes us think we are hearing the great Carl Wilson once again. Personally, I can't wait for his third album to come out. " In this, his own "Pet Sounds," John has lifted his talents (and falsettos) to new heights. He has every bit as much musical appeal as any of the Beach Boys. Not to take away anything from them, but it's really amazing how life deals out such random cards!!! JOHN should have been Brian Wilson, or at least Bruce Johnson. It's About Time, Do It Again! " I love this selection of songs. I get a lift when the CD starts out with Its About Time; I need to crank it up and let my head whack out the time. And that lift stays through the whole CD. Youre Never Alone is a favorite--the line though youre feeling so haunted by the ghosts in your bones is brilliant. And The Laughter of Your Voice is one of the most beautiful songs Ive ever heard. There is something in the quality of John's voice that is really satisfying. I'll buy anything he does. Oh. And that arrangement of Under a Beach Boy Moon ! Thats inspired. Thru My Window is not an easy song to sing, but he nails it. And where did he come up with the surf rap in Just Can't Wait for Summertime? Thats great. Like I said, I love this selection of songs. Not only with faithful covers of some of their greatest tracks ("Darlin'", "It's About Time"), but with original tracks like "You're Never Alone" that show a great songwriting talent. "Today, the CD "It's About Time" was on repeat and I sang in the sunshine, "You're Never Alone" and "The Girl in the Rear-View Mirror," glad for the lyrics to be printed on the sleeve. Billy Hinsche's Under a Beach Boy Moon made me wish for a party and I was delighted to see my favorite Beach Boy, Carl Wilson's songs represented along with Dennis Wilson's It's About Time. What a fitting song to begin the album. The hauntingly beautiful "The Laughter of Your Voice" !!!! Oooo !!. I had previously missed the exact notes and guitar sound of the band in "Don't Worry,Baby." I prefer John's CD's of "You Need a Mess of Help to Stand Alone..." over the Beach Boy one. "Goin' On" knocked me out !! The band wailed on that one. I like the ennunciation of the singer;I could understand all the words. The CD seems to have a spirit of it's own with the songs flowing together. This album will be my medicine for cloudy days. "

" I was blown away when I found out John Hunter Phillips does all of the voices on these songs. How can he do that? Hes really good. My favorite is probably Wild Honey. He wails on that. I really love "Lahaina Aloha" too, and "Somewhere Near Japan." I went to his website and listened to all the samples and knew I wanted all the songs. So I got out my credit card and now I have both CDs, "Diamonds on the Beach" and "Its About Time." Im glad I did. I listen to them. A lot. " "A great tribute to The Beach Boys"

"These renditions of obscure Beach Boys songs are a great tribute to them and done superbly by an artist that is multi-talented and certainly does them justice. The CD was well done, the varibles in the music, the song choices, and harmony were outstanding and each song an enjoyable experience."...... John, I really love your CDs and the song selection are excellent. The critics here seem to have the same opinion ! You are now big in Japan. ...... JOHN HUNTER PHILLIPS BIOGRAPHY ......One of the first things you learn when you meet John is that he's a Beach Boys fan. He has dissected their harmonies many times, in order to recreate them using his own voice. Listen carefully. He did not get any of that from sheet music (though he could certainly write the sheet music for these recordings if he had to). He got them by listening, one note at a time. Try it sometime.We'll tell you in a minute what the three true highlights of his life are. But there are an additional nine highlights enjoyed by very few people John sang onstage with the Beach Boys nine times; and if you search through the gallery on his website for photos of those events, you will see his soul shining from the joy of it. John is most alive when he's singing. He needs to make music to stay happy.The three true highlights of his life are his three daughters. He loves them more than life.John studied music at the University of Miami. He has been a musician all his life, from a family of musicians. He had his own band in sixth grade, then another through high school, and others for several years thereafter.In year 1999, after spending hours putting his unique voice on the harmonies, John had recorded enough Beach Boys songs (and one by John Fogerty) to put out his first CD, Diamonds on the Beach. That CD contains 16 songs, all winners. When you listen to the samples, or to the CD itself, notice the voice range. Thats all John. He does some duet work with Billy Hinsche on 'One More Night Alone,' and Misha Wade does some background vocal on 'Wild Honey.' The rest, from bass to falsetto, is all John.Then he did what any enthusiastic musician does. He started recording for his next CD. As copies of Diamonds on the Beach were being bought up, he headed back to the studio for a second round with different songs.When he was ready, he finished the second CD, all 18 songs of it. This time, two songs are by Beach Boy alumnus Billy Hinsche (those arrangements are John's, by the way) and one is by Brian Wilson sideman, Jeffrey Foskett. Three of the songs are originals by John, and they're excellent. One a capella piece is by John's talented friend, Jim Oliver, and another is a nod to The Four Freshman. There is one favorite by Dion DiMucci. The rest of his recordings, need we mention, are Beach Boys songs.Why did John choose the title Its About Time for this second CD? You can figure that one out by yourself, we're sure of it. It was worth the wait.
