Paul Calvert Black

Paul Black Music is the result of 25 years of doing nothing to use the talents and abilities that one is blessed with. This changed when Paul's youngest child, Nicholas, was disgnosed with a rare form of cancer, called Neuroblastoma. With this eye opening and soul searching event, it was then that he decided to do the one thing that has been a part of him since birth, write music, make CD's and perform.So Paul started writing after a twleve year absence, and began performing at local clubs and coffee shops in 2004. He takes 35% of all gross receipts from all performances, CD and merchandise sales and provides assistance to children with cancer, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, multiple hospitals and organiztions, and local families in need. For 2008 Paul would like to perform at least 100 shows in North and South Carolina, and slowly expand to Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia and Florida for 2008.Through the blessings of our Heavenly Father and the talents and abilities of the doctors and nurses who treated Nicholas, he was brought into a type of "remission" called N.E.D. (No evidence of disease) in May of 2004. Since then, Paul started a music program that he hopes grows to include other musicians called Will Sing 4 A Cure, and this where Paul's contributions (33% of gross) go. Best of all Nicholas is still CANCER FREE!Paul performs primarily at fairs, malls, movie theaters, festivals, special events, fundraisers, churches, amusement parks, music venues and any other place that will let him sing for a living and help raise money and awareness for children's cancers of all types.

Paul currently lives in near Wilmington, North Carolina after spending 8 years in the greater Los Angeles area and growing up near Baltimore, MD. He attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), and studied Music and Theater.

Paul's music is a reflection of who he is and the experiences that he has faced in life, good and bad. The style is quite eclectic, some songs can be similar toJimmy Buffet, others are more refined. Paul writes an eclectic mix because that is what life is....ECLECTIC. Otherwise life would be very boring.

As a Christian and a man who has experienced the joys and heartaches of life, Paul writes from as deep in his soul as possible, but at the same time likes to write some fun songs on the lighter side.As mentioned, it is a very eclectic mix to say the least, but there is something for everyone. Some of Paul's songs are inspirational/Christian in nature, but at the same time are not preachy, others are about love, romance, hope, and basic human nature. The messages are univeral.

Paul doesn't like to get caught up in classification of his music, and he is not really sure how you would classify his music in the first place, as "I write for the moment." Some songs sound "folky" while others have a more Christian overtone to them. As Paul says, "I am just me, and I hope that you like what you hear, and that you will help me spread my sound to others."Paul is currently working on two CD's, one for adults and the other for children with life-threatening diseases. The first CD of adult oriented acoustic/adult/alternative will be out by February 2008(fingers crossed.....again), with the second scheduled for December of 2008.We will be adding songs to the site as they become available and hope you like what you hear.
