************************************************************ *************** M.A.NUMMINEN & DJ SANE - THE STORY SO FAR ************************************************************ ***************M.A.Numminen, the legendary figure in Finnish underground (and also popular) music and culture since the 60's, is known for his need and ability to always move forward and seek new dimensions and ways for expression. ************************************************************ ***************In 2003 he came up with an idea for a new band: M.A.N. Scratch Band, which consisted of keyboardist Pedro Hietanen (his long term accompanion and a member of the legendary prog rockers Wigwam), young jazz cats Olavi Louhivuori (Ilmiliekki Quartet, Oddarrang...) on drums and Lasse Lindgren (Severi Pyysalo Band etc.) on bass and Santeri Vuosara as Dj Sane on turntables. M.A.N. Scratch Band played Numminen's greatest hits with a groovy, jazzy and sometimes quite strange touch. Sane had a stack of original M.A.N. vinyl records that he used to add scratches and effects on top of the band's playing. ************************************************************ ***************M.A.Numminen & DJ Sane duo was formed in 2004 for a one off show but it turned out to be a huge success! They have toured around Finland in clubs and on some of the major festivals (and even national TV!). Their sound is a comination of electronic beats and soundscapes from buddhist ambient to drum'n'bass and trip hop to a totally improvised chaos. While DJ Sane is doing his thing with turntables, sampler and effects (sometimes even melodica) MAN himself is singing, doing his unique style of rhythm poetry and playing electric drums.****************************************************** ********************* Late 2005 came out Contro corrente ep, a strictly limited pressing on vinyl only, released by Numminen's own Eteenpäin! (Forward!) label, which he fouded in 1966 to release his very first record Hevoset ja minä (Horses and I). Contro corrente ep got the attention it deserved on the underground and was even embraced on national radio. A long play cd is due to come out in October on Rockadillo Records.**************************************************** ***********************In August 2006 the legendary German left field label Trikont released M.A.Numminen singt Heinrich Heine album consisting Numminen's compositions and performances of poems by this German poet. Yet another fresh idea from the MAN: classical poetry meets string quartet and electronics!
