Normenon is a voice improvisation group embracing the power of Music. The improvisations of Normenon are completely free, meaning that they are formed organically by the dimension of music, not by the separate egos. The singers form a five-voiced instrument, that has only one task: to vibrate.
According to ethnomusicologist Charles Seeger, “Normenon†means any man- or woman-made thing that serves the purpose of communication. He defines communication as being “transmission of energy in a formâ€.
Normenon started in 2006 as an Orfeo-pedagogical singer’s group. This group soon grew up to be an improvisation group. The innovator of Orfeo-pedagogy is Ilmari Varila from Kaustinen (Finland).
