A girl walks into a bar to see an act called ‘The Erotic Adventures of the Static Chicken.’ Though she’s disappointed that the band is neither sexy nor covered in electrically charged feathers, by the end of the night she’s onstage belting out a drunken rendition of “Stormy Monday” and local bands are clamoring for her to sit in with them.
Four years later, she’s living in Chicago with two albums, four Summerfest appearances, multiple national tours, and radio play on hundreds of stations across the country to her credit.
Since the night with the chicken, Julie has played live on television, commercial and college radio stations; headlined the Chick Singer Night anniversary shows in Los Angeles and Milwaukee; and performed at clubs, colleges, and festivals all over the country - from Albuquerque's Hyperactive Music Fest to Austin's SXSW , from the Walnut Room in Denver to WXPN's World Cafe Live in Philadelphia and the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.
Sony sponsored the Julie Moffitt Remix Contest in 2006 to celebrate her second album, 'The Stolen EP' ( Burst Records ). The album's first single, “Try,” has been featured on college and independent radio around the country, as well as on the 2006 GoGirlsMusicFest CD and on Australia’s popular Sounds Like Café series (vol. 14). In February 2007, “Let Him Be” (also from 'The Stolen EP') appeared in Paste Magazine ’s Issue 28 Sampler alongside new tracks from The Shins and Lucinda Williams .
2007 was a breakout year for Julie, kicking off with a nomination for Best Acoustic Act by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry just as she was leaving Milwaukee for Chicago's lush musical scene. She enjoyed her first headlining spot at Milwaukee’s Summerfest , spent the fall racking up over 20,000 miles on a college tour across the Midwest, and opened for major acts including Sara Bareilles (Epic), Mat Kearney (Columbia), Matt Nathanson (Acrobat), The Gufs and Willy Porter .
The icing on the proverbial cake came in December when Julie beat out hundreds of other artists to win both the Critics’ Pick and the fan-picked $10,000 Fenom title in the international online competition FameCast .
Julie started off 2008 with a trip to Europe to celebrate her win, followed by two performances at SXSW and a week at the ASCAP Expo in Los Angeles. She plays regularly in Chicago, Minneapolis, Nashville, and Milwaukee.

Travelin' girl [04.21.08]
I've finally been back in Chicago for a week now, catching up and relaxing with my puppy. The traveling has been great though! Check out my blog for details on my shows at SXSW, my trip to LA for the ASCAP Expo. There are also new pics up here from SXSW and LA , plus some more recent pics of Evey for you puggle-lovers.

Check out the calendar for upcoming shows - I hope to see you out there soon!

I suck. [03.05.08]
There are at least 50 people out there - possibly way, way more - who have been denied friend requests by me simply because I have not gone through and added friends in over a month. I am sorry. I suck. I promise, if you come back and request me again, I'll act like an adult and handle things.

Sometimes it's hard to be a grown-up.

Julie Moffitt - Live in Vienna! [02.03.08]
Okay, there wasn't an official concert, but I did get to play for some pretty big and exuberant crowds while I was in Vienna! A few nights entertaining at the Hostel Ruthensteiner bar, and an afternoon at the Haus der Musik . I'll blog it all shortly!

2007 was a good year [01.25.08]

Another year, another feature article in the NR News [01.16.08] Happy New Year to everyone, and I hope that your resolutions are coming along better than mine! I didn't make any major ones, just, you know, get my dog to stop crapping on the floor...and the couch...and the laundry... *sigh*

While I work on that, check out my latest appearance in my hometown newspaper, the New Richmond News !

I WON!!!!! [12.15.07] I won the whole thing! FameCast Fenom, Critics' Pick, the works! My fans are seriously the absolute best fans on the planet. I can't thank all of you enough, there simply aren't words. THANK YOU!!!

To watch the video from Finals (complete with critics' comments and behind-the-scenes footage), go to the FameCast site . Or just watch it here on this page. Either way is cool. :)

FameCast Finals voting starts now! [12.06.07] This is it! I've been to Austin and back (you can read all about my rockstar weekend on my blog ), and tonight at 9pm EST the Finals will be put online at FameCast.com . We've got one week of daily voting to claim that $10,000 - LET'S DO THIS!!

FameCast Finals - here I come! [11.29.07] "Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

Winston Churchill wasn't kidding - democracy means voting, and voting means I'm heading for Austin this weekend to compete in the FameCast Finals ! It's all 'cause of you guys voting your cute little buns off for me every day. And so I thank you. There's one week left to vote, and it's the big one - the one that just might land me $10,000 (and thus a new album)!! So stay tuned and be ready to vote from December 6 - 13. It just might change someone's life. :)

In the meantime, I'll also be heading out on college tour this week, and though it's been a bit overshadowed by the FameCast thing, I'm opening up for Sara Bareilles tomorrow night! I just love her, and the fact that we were in competing a cappella groups in LA ( Trojans vs Bruins , you know) has done nothing to keep me from talking her up. Check her out, and I'll let you know how the show goes!

Blame Canada but thank the fans! [10.05.07] I'm in Canada and for some reason that is a really exciting thing for me right now. Maybe it's all the caffeine, or the exhaustion, or maybe just the thrill of knowing that tomorrow I'll be on a radio show called Beer for Breakfast . Whatever it is, I'm lovin' it .

What I'm loving even more is you guys. Thanks to your help, I jumped 40 spots in the FameCast voting for Round 2 in 24 hours. Hell yes.

Featured tonight on XM Radio!! [9.20.07] Tonight on XMU's (XM Channel 43) Radar Report , I'm going to be one of 13 featured unsigned artists! The show is on at 10pm ET (9pm Central, 8pm Mountain - you know the drill), and if you don't have XM Radio you can tune in at xmradio.com and listen in.

In other news, Round 1 voting on Famecast closes today and it looks like I sailed into Round 2 of the Singer/Songwriter Stage! Synchronicity baby - tonight at 9pm Chicago time, I'm going to be on XM Radio for the first time and I'm going to be announced on Famecast.com .

And I just saved a bundle on car insurance by switching to Geico .

Wisdom from the road, and my foray into competition [9.10.07] The much-anticipated fall college tour is now underway, with shows all over Wisconsin this month and all over the Midwest in October. Check my calendar for full details on where I'll be and when, and then visit my new tour blog for random updates and pictures.

Also, for all of y'all who've been telling me for years that I should try out for American Idol, I'm still holding out but I've got another option for you! Right now I'm competing in an online music competition at Famecast.com . If I make it through all four rounds and win the finals, I'll win enough money to finance a brand new studio album to follow up the one I'm about to release!! So, get to voting people, and get me back in the studio!

New videos! [8.07.07] It finally occurred to me that I hadn't updated my YouTube page in quite a while... It still needs a little touching up (what's up with that crappy green background? I did not choose that!), but I've posted some new videos from my July show at Uncommon Ground. Scroll down here and you can check out a couple of them, including my brand new tune, A Bottle of Gin and a Bucket Full of Limes .

That one might need a new title...

Things to check out [8.02.07] A sweet review of my EP on a fan's blog (thanks Julie!!), and my friend Tom's band, Hillcrest Road , with some fresh new songs. Plus, for those of you in the Ohio area, I'm playing at the Midpoint Music Festival at the end of September!

Purchase individual tracks now on Snocap [7.24.07] Okay, look over to the right of the page...scroll down...a little farther...yeah, I know, there are a lot of shows, just keep going...there!

My new Snocap store. ? You can buy individual tracks from everything I never asked for, The Stolen EP and - at some point in the future - random live performances. I know, it's pretty damn exciting, this technology stuff.

Summerfest 2007, new songs and new pics [7.12.07] Summerfest was a complete blast this year. I played my first ever solo slot on the US Cellular Stage, with the wonderful talents of Tom Good and Alan Arber backing me up, and even made friends with some AFI fans. I'll have pictures from that show up soon!

Speaking of pictures, I've posted some new pics from recent shows, mostly thanks to Mr Chris Hemmerly , my very tall friend and photographer. And I've uploaded a few new live recordings - new music (finally!)! Give us some feedback loves.

Quick note [6.14.07] I've been neglecting my Friend Requests, and I'm sorry about that! Hang in there if you're waiting to hear back from me, this weekend is chaos but then I'll be adding everybody in the queue. In the meantime, you can read about my cicada experience and you can come see me at any of the ridiculous number of dates I'm playing soon. :)

Oh, and P.S. if you live in the southern region of the US, I just (literally just this minute) found out that I've been selected to showcase for the NACA South this fall, for booking Spring 2008. So I'll be comin' down your way soon!! KickASS!!
