Serena Postel's music can make a demon swoon or a prostitute blush. Her charismatic voice and beautifully melodic songs are juxtaposed, yet complimented by her percussive guitar style and her razor-sharp wit. Of course only speculation, it’s thought Serena very well could be the love-child of Sarah Harmer, Ani DiFranco and Holly McNarland.
Serena puts on a live show to remember. Complimented by her talented and versatile band (Dave Graham, Ian Mikita and Bruce Berven) Serena displays a mosaic of emotion and experience with unbridled energy that will hypnotize an audience.
Just in the past year Serena has graced the Winnipeg Fringe Festival, Brandon Folk Festival, and the Trout Forest Festival, embarked on three cross-Canada tours and garnered airplay on CBC Radio, UMFM, CKUW and KickFM and his headed to showcase at this year’s NXNE in Toronto. She has shared the stage with some of Canada's finest folk artists: Coco Love Alcorn, Hey Ocean, Nathan Rogers, NQ Arbuckle, Romi Mayes, Twilight Hotel and Dan Frechette, as well as having lent her voice to Jet Set Satellite for an acoustic remake of their song which originally featured Martha Wainwright.
Big Bad Wolf, a haunting tale of a child's nightmare from Serena's 2006 release, Spare Change, sat at number one on the Manitoba Music Chart for several weeks. This seven song EP continues to sell across Canada, the US, as well as to her growing following over seas.
Inspired by the success of Spare Change, excited by her own musical evolution from touring and constant live shows, Serena is now recording her first full-length album that will bottle her and her band's live vigor and magnify the experience for the ears. She plans on persistent, heavy touring across Canada, the US and Australia, because on the road "you have no choice but to be heading somewhere".
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT SERENA POSTEL…
"Serena Postel is the real deal....unbridled soul, bottomless energy and captivating intensity, it's what they call real talent. You can't teach what she's got at the core of her music; you either have it or you don't. She has it in spades." - Aaron Garner (singer-songwriter, Toronto)
"Serena is a hurricane force vortex of emotion, her ferocious performances are something to behold and be reckoned with."
- Dan Frechette, Singer-songwriter
"Serena Postel possesses a raw, feminine talent of which the music world is in dire need. Her rapier wit is a formidable weapon in both her lyricism and her stage banter. She is Winnipeg's firecracker."
- Nathan Rogers
"Serena Postel may have been an unknown quantity when she took to the stage Sunday evening at the Showroom but all that changed within the space of an hour long set. She made us feel as if we knew her via the raw honesty of her lyrics, emotionally charged guitar playing and caffeinated asides. It was like suddenly meeting a ferocious and intriguing young woman at a local coffeehouse and wanting to spend the rest of the evening just talking to her; or, in this case, listening to her sing. This lady doesn’t sing these songs. She tears into them like she has been living on the street and this is her first meal in days. Skin and bones. Blood and tissue. Heart and mind. Whew! No wonder they call her Winnipeg’s firecracker!â€
