MUSIC…RANDY…MUSIC…RANDY…MUSIC…RANDY…It is hard to tell where one begins and the other ends. If music is a language, then Randy is bi-lingual – he taps it, he strums it, he hums it. Music lives inside of him; it excites him and inspires him. This passion is perhaps only superseded by his zeal for God – the Giver of the gift!His gift of communicating in the language of music reveals itself in his musical arrangements heard in Electrik’s 2006 Album CSME (Caribbean Soca Musical Explosion) in 2006, which included popular songs such as My Boo by Omar McQuilkin featuring Hawkeye, which won the Best Male Music Video and a nomination for Best Male Ragga Soca at the 2007 Barbados Music Awards and also took 5th place at the Party Monarch Finals 2006, and Belong To We by Mikey, which caught the imagination and fervour of Crop Over music lovers in 2006.The CSME Album includes the talent of Local Band Electrik, with collaborated efforts with international and Jamaican Artistes Hawkeye, Lexxus and Elephant Man. In 2006, Randy’s musical compositions found favour with Local Artistes Peter Ram, Popsicle, Malcolm X, NIIRO, Omar McQuilkin, Keisha Christian and Michael Mercer – under his own Studio Label QUANTUM PRODUCTIONS.Randy has also demonstrated a flair for writing and composing, and in 2005 penned a social commentary which was delivered by Keisha Holdipp in the House of Soca Calypso Tent, which was well received by several respected writers in the Industry. He was applauded for his efforts in the field of social commentary because not many young musicians and writers seem to take an interest in this crafty and spirited type of Caribbean musical expression. In the same year, he launched Keisha Christian to the Party Monarch Finals with song he wrote and composed called Girl’s Mission. The toast of his writing so far has been the co-written song Territory by Keisha Christian which took her to the 2 spot on Tempo, on the popular music video show, the cross Caribbean countdown. This dual effort with Keisha has made this young musician proud and only aspires to improve in coming years and to cross the borders of regional limitation to international recognition.Not at all bad for a recording project that had its conception in Randy’s bedroom, and born out of a growing love and interest in audio recording.Randy’s talent for interpreting music also finds expression through his saxophone, his instrument of choice since 1994 when he joined the ranks of the Barbados Cadet Corps Band and learned to play the Tenor Sax. For a short spell he played the Trumpet, and then was seduced by the sounds of the Alto Sax which he played until he was promoted to the rank of Drum Major of the Barbados Cadet Corps Band in 2000. During his years at the Combermere School, the drive and passion for music was harnessed and trained while attending music classes and private lessons in theory and practical exercises. While at Combermere playing in the School and Cadet band, Randy became a member of an acapella group named Rest Assured which won favor in ears of several persons treated to the fantastic harmonies delivered by the talented group of six. The group went on to win bronze and silver medals at NIFCA in 1999 and 2000 respectively. This group was so well received, they were given the opportunity to perform at the NIFA GALA and at the magnificent Government House under the patronage of His Excellency the Governor General Sir Clifford Husbands. This group also opened the entertainment for the first lighting ceremony in Independence Square. His educational training also included accounting and business while at Secondary School. After completing his A’ Level studies, Randy made the decision to pursue a BSc. Management at the University of the West Indies. This decision was supported by his mother who also tried to encourage him to pursue his musical studies at a higher level at the Barbados Community College, a decision which was delayed until after his first degree. Many find it amazing that his mother actually wanted him to pursue a career in music first. Randy emphasizes the fact that his mother always encouraged him to do what makes him happy as long as it is constructive. Only after joining the band Electrik in 2001, did he realize that his destiny would be in the music industry and that his unmistakable passion for music could not be denied. He then decided complete the task he had already started and received his Bsc. in October 2005 and then set out to lay the foundation for his musical career by joining the Performing Arts programme at the Barbados Community College in September 2005.Randy has shared the stage with several artists such as Bunji Garlin, Machel Montano, Hawkeye, Lexxus, Baron, Black Stallin, Alison Hinds, Rupee, Hypa Dawg, Peter Ram, Mr. Dale, Biggie Irie and several more.In 2007 Randy has taken steps to further develop his career through lots of online reading, better structuring of the company Quantum Productions, planning for further musical studies, and acquisition of higher technology in the studio.Randy always strives for high quality and has learned well from local producers. He credits his development highly to Chris Allman and Nell Greenidge of Slam City Recording Studio, and John Roett and Anthony Lowhar who has been like a godfather to him in recent years. Mr. Lowhar is also about quality and with his new Pro Tools HD 5 studio Anthony will be delivering some more amazing mixes for Randy and Quantum Studio.Randy has recently moved into another realm of musical development after joining the band Jegna in May 2007 which features John King on lead vocals. This new phase has seen new understanding of music and the fundamentals and new musical relationships being formed. His work is now recognized by John King the have undertaken recording projects together to be released to the world in the coming months.As band leader for the House of Soca Tent in 2007, Randy has developed as a player from his early days in the tents with Lion’s Den, Calypso Dome, Gladiators and Contenders. His leadership style was well received by fellow management, band members and calypsonians alike. Although still young, Randy has some valuable experience and knowledge but intends to continue to learn. He believes that with music, you can never stop learning.His latest project will be the production of the studio’s first album “ANTICIPATED” which will feature several local and regional artistes and maybe even a track from the producer himself. The scope of the album is worldwide and promises to be a new experience.Randy continues to strive for excellence and has found a renewed faith in God his Father and aspires to receive a Grammy award in years to come. With a philosophy emphasized by his mother, Randy lives under the principle that perseverance seldom fails and continues to search deep within himself for any hidden expression of his musical ability.“Music is a way of life, and an expression of ourselves.
