As Wynter Gordon prepares to release her first commercial single as an Atlantic Records recording artist, Surveillance, everyone from music industry executives to casual R&B fans should be keeping a keen eye on her every move. Far more than your average, run-of –the-mill vocalist, Wynter has also earned her stripes as a masterful songwriter, composer, and performer. As her manager, Keith White, puts it, “her magnetic charm and beauty may initially draw you in, but it will undoubtedly be her passionate songs that speak to you, and, ultimately, keep you here.”
Wynter Gordon’s charismatic persona and bone chilling vocals have already attracted thousands of fans on social networking sites such as YouTube and MySpace. She now looks to use her strong web presence to launce a viral marketing campaign around the release of her single and then her debut album, Wynter. “The Internet is not the future, its NOW!!!” says Wynter. “ If an artist can’t connect with their fans over the web, soon, they might not have any.”
Wynter came from very humble beginnings, growing up in the poverty stricken neighborhood of Southside Jamaica Queens, NY. As the middle child of seven, Wynter’s talents began to shine through at an early age. She performed in many school and city sponsored talent show and always seemed to capture the spotlight. After years of being bussed to multi-cultural middle schools in the New York area, Wynter was finally able to develop her talents at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. There she received professional training as a vocalist, songwriter, and dancer. She quickly rose to the top of her class and was the featured performer at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.
After graduation, Wynter joined the American Music and Drama Academy Conservatory (AMDA). However, she was soon overtaken by her passion to become a major label recording artist. Wynter dropped out of AMDA to work on her demo and pursue her dreams. She took on various day jobs to sustain her while working diligently during her free time to write and record songs. Within a year, Wynter caught her first break by penning the title track to Mary J. Blige’s “Breakthrough” album. Soon after, she was signed to Atlantic Records, through Don Pooh Music Group, where she has been working on her album ever since.
Wynter Gordon displays her talented vocal performance and masterful songwriting skills on her single, Surveillance, as well as throughout her debut album, Wynter. Along with producers Bryan Michael Cox, D'mile, Misto and Pizzi, Fernando Garibay and Tricky, and co-writing contributions from Dianne Warren, The Dream, A Plus, and Delisha Thomas, Wynter puts together an album that should challenge more seasoned artists for top positions on the Billboard charts. Though commercially superior to most debut releases, Wynter still manages to provide social commentary on issues such as homelessness, poverty, and domestic violence through her music in songs like “Lil’ Bit” and “Struggle.” Wynter Gordon is the breath of fresh air the music industry needs.
