Give Them an Inch...

The two-day exhibition 'Give Them an Inch…', is the culmination of a four-week residency, offered to members selected from Generator Projects annual Members’ Show. Peter Mansfield, Ruby Pester, Gyl Rae and Euan Taylor were given the opportunity to create and experiment with new work in Generator’s gallery spaces. Selected for their contrasting qualities, each artist has used the time diversely to research and resolve developing ideas.
The residency was established to offer the selected artists large studio space and unique resources, enabling them to develop their practices in ways not possible in the regular studio environment. As a result, each artist presents work in a ‘open studio’ surrounding: on show are works by Mansfield, Pester and Taylor created on residency; while Rae used the space for its research provisions.
Peter Mansfield exhibits painted/sculptural works; referring to personal experience and comparisons with eastern culture. Ruby Pester’s mixed-media, video and photographic work explore the relational qualities and conflicts between the body and matter; Euan Taylor’s large-scale installation is facilitated in Generator’s biggest exhibition space; developing a dialogue between form and function with found industrial objects.
