It started on October 9, 2000. That day it took place the first rehearsal of the band in Chesus’ basement. In that time, the band was composed of three people: Alberto (guitar), Chesus (Drums) and Rodrigo (bass). The first rehearsals were a jumble of melodies and covers. We wanted another guitarist to join the band and some names were put forward, but no one finally joined us.
After a month and a half, Rodrigo decides to leave the band and Cristian (guitar), who came from another band named “Santa Paciencia”, is incorporated. Cristian goes to the rehearsal with assiduity and from Christmas 2000, the band was immersed in the search for a rehearsal place, in order to stop tormenting Chesus’ neighbours. As always, shortage of money forced the band to share rehearsal place with other bands. This time was a in a warehouse with an awful acoustic placed in La Cartuja road.
We played in the warehouse from March, 2001 to the winter of the same year. The reasons for abandoning the warehouse were: excessive hot in summer, excessive cold in winter and awful acoustics. The good thing is that the first songs of the demo started to come up there.
In the warehouse, the band composed of Alberto, Chesus and Cristian starts to look for a bass guitarist. Some people were offered a chance but none of them were good enough.
After a time looking for a rehearsal place, a band that played in Delicias’ neighbourhood, let us share place with them. In that rehearsal place, our songs started to take shape.
In spring 2002, a singer (Fernando) was incorporated. He didn’t connect with the band and he wasn’t what we were looking for, although he stayed with us four months. After Fernando’s departure, a new guitarist joined the band. His name was Josi.
Faced with the difficulty of finding a bass player, Alberto decided to learn playing it. He bought Rodrigo’s bass and Josi became Cristian’s new partner. With some of the songs almost finished, Chuse Miguel contacted with the band through an announcement in CIPAJ bulletin. The band received Chuse very good and he immediately started to work on the lyrics.
A little before Chuse’s incorporation and after a lot of names and ideas, it fell into our hands an ancient legend from Aragonese Pyrenees that narrated the story of a mythological man called Atland. The name of the legend would be the name of the band.
Judith entered the band as a child whose parents don’t expect but it is loved anyway. The truth is that the band composed then by Chesus, Chuse, Alberto, Josi and Cristian didn’t expect more incorporations and was already thinking on performing on stage. However, it was decided to prove the sound of the keyboard in Atland and with the passing of time it has become a basic pillar of our music.
When the band was already formed, unfortunate events in the place rehearsal led the band to look for a new place (January 2005).
Luckily, the band found soon a new place and we were able to finalize details of our demo. However, this wouldn’t be our last scare because in October 2005, Cristian announced that he was leaving the band because he wasn’t motivated after four years trying to play on stage. As a farewell to Cristian, we accorded that he would play in the first concert and then, the band would look for other guitarist.
Finally, we had a date for our first performance: December 9, 2005 (Five years and two months since the first meeting).
As we were coming closer to our debut, Atland played four hours and hours trying to give a good image. Expectation was increasing, spectators started to confirm their presence as public and we were more and more excited.
A week before the concert, Cristian confirms what we all were thinking in the last rehearsals. He wouldn’t leave the band because he is more than motivated to continue and he couldn’t imagine his live without playing the guitar.
December 9, 2005: Atland’s performance in Utopia
The club was bursting with people! Friends and family gathered to support Atland, who played for an hour and a half (solos, covers and our songs). The show will remain in our memories forever.
December 10, 2005:
A huge hangover, but it was worth it. Atland’s legend will continue… THE LEGEND CONTINUES
