..hello everyone and thanks for your interest in our festival...this is however 'just' the myspace version with a brief info below; if you want to know what we're REALLY all about just go to the 'real' springfestival website...
but to give you an overview here goes:
The springfestival is the biggest festival for clubculture in Austria and its neighbouring countries.
It started in 2001 as springone – festival for electronic art and music and has considerably increased since then.
In 2007, springseven took place in 14 venues all over the city with more than 250 artists playing for almost 20.000 people, making it one of the most important events for DJ- and clubculture in Central Europe.
The springfestival covers all musical genres from Drum’n’Bass to Dubstep, Electro and Techno to House, Ambient, Hip Hop, Downtempo, Dub, Breakbeat, Reggae and Ragga and beyond and emphasises on live performances as well as label specials (such as Chew The Fat!, K7, Metalheadz, Ed Banger, Kitsune, Kompakt, Compost etc.) and exclusive performances being put together especially for this event (such as Carl Craig’s live performance during the Detroit Night last year).
Core part of the springfestival is the daytime program such as the Red Bull Music Academy Sessions, Workshops (such as Dubplate cutting, producing, Final Scratch and the Video Production and Visuals & VJ Workshops in coop with the University for Applied Sciences), book presentations and readings (i.e. Bill Brewster, Hans Nieswandt), a video exhibition in the local museum for contemporary art, symposiums etc.
Austria’s national alternative radio, FM4, moves to Graz during the festival to broadcast live from here all week to Austria and parts of Germany, Slovenia and Croatia as official festival radio.
The springfestival promo tour (8 dates in 2007) takes place 3 weeks before the festival reaching about 10.000 people in other parts of Austria as well as Slovenia, Croatia and Italy.
In August, the springfestival hosted one of the major clubnights at the c/o pop festival in Cologne, Germany with an international Dubstep line up (Mala/Digital Mystikz, Loefah, Pinch, Plastician & Sgt Pokes) as well as a room in their festival centre throughout the whole event, bringing about 30 local artists to Germany.
In 2008, springeight will once again feature numerous outstanding performances by extraordinary artists, a live opening concert, a video production workshop that already started in november and various debuts, premieres and special performances that have been put together just for this event...
SOME OF THIS YEAR'S HIGHLIGHTS:
Audio-visual performance in public space:
Renowned video artist Mox will present a unique dialogue between architecture and sound. The music for this audio-visual performance will be composed by two award-winning pianists, Francesco Tristano and Kelvin Sholar, inspired by the minimal music of Reich and the great themes of Austrian composers like Schoenberg, Beethoven and Wagner.
This world premiere will be performed on the Bix Facade of Kunsthaus Graz, the city's museum for contemporary art.
Synthesizerpark exhibition and workshop:
The SYNTHESIZERPARK is an analogue synthesizer exhibition curated by Frank Husemann and Sunny Vollherbst (*Q*) from Hamburg, Germany. It’s comprised of analogue synthesizers (from minimoog to OSCar....), beatboxes & drummachines (from aria diamond to tr 808....) and analogue stepsequencers (system 100 Mod.104....) dating primarily from 1972 to 1982.
Some of the synthesizers in the collection are also synchronised to another giving the visitor the possibility to create more complex multi instrumental arrangements.
There are also sub-mixers with headphones allowing visitors to actually play the synthesizers and create sounds in a more relaxed one on one atmosphere. This way exhibition attendants can see, hear and feel the beauty of analogue music machines.
springfestival joins ranks with The End (London):
We are proud to announce that we have managed to get The End, one of the most prestigious clubs in London on board as a partner for springeight. This state of the art club has been an integral part of London’s underground dance music’s history for over a decade and is a guarantee of quality for any dedicated clubber.
The teaming up with a partner like The End is another step towards the springfestival’s further expansion providing sophisticated clubnights to an international crowd.
The End will take over the whole Dom im Berg, the festival’s main venue, on Saturday 24th May with a lineup that represents the club’s wide musical spectrum of some of the world’s finest DJs holding residencies at The End.
As part of the coop with The End, springfestival is happy to be hosting a promo event on Friday, 28th March in the course of the next Marky & Friends event in London.
