About Me

Women's Organization of Rebirth Through Healing, INC.
The Women's Organization of Rebirth Through Healing Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. W.O.R.T.H. is dedicated to raising awareness surrounding sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Our mission is also to assist the efforts in obtaining proper medical care for the physical trauma associated with violent rape and to work holistically to address the emotional, physiological, mental, spiritual and economic impacts that sexual violence has on the overall well-being of women and children.
W.O.R.T.H. recognizes the dire need to address human rights violations against women and children in The Democratic Republic of the Congo. We seek to address and raise international awareness surrounding issues such as personal safety, sexual violence, displacement, access to health care, food and shelter, detention, and gender discrimination. W.O.R.T.H. uses a holistic model as an essential framework for addressing the overall well-being of women and Children in Central Africa.
Since the beginning of the war in 1998, an estimated 4 million lives have been lost, making it likely the deadliest war since World War II. Millions of women and children have been brutally killed during these violent years in the Congo. Over 40,000 rapes have been reported, however, that figure is considered to be a gross underestimation as many women never come forward due to the fear of being ostracized.
