What can I do to help change the state of the world? To make a difference? To end suffering? So often we as activists, concerned citizens, parents, community organizers and everyday people ask ourselves this same question.Filmmaking has long been one of the most powerful and influencial shapers of the way our society looks at the world, it's challenges, it's darkness as well as it's light. Documentaries like Edward Blackoff's "Incest - A Family Tragedy" offer us a vastly important way to take wide spectrum look at the inner workings and complexities of a topic, in this case child abuse and incest, so we can look at the perpetrators and victims involved, get a glimpse into their psychology, their words, their worlds. In this film we also, through honest interviews and behind the scene exposure, look into the work of politicians, police, therapists and the communities where these crimes are happening allowing us to get a greater understanding of the people working to change public policy and the people effected realities.Sometimes in life it takes a movie or a song or a piece of art to open up our minds and expose a problem, in only the way art can, it is through these means that we become better, more informed people and that indeed - is truly - the way we can change the world.
I'd like to meet:
HOSTS & TRAINERS:We are looking for people to host showings of the film to neighbors, family and friends. What is the responsibility of a host? Open your home or an alternative sight and invite 10-20 people to come to the showing of “Incest: A Family Tragedy.†Conduct a round table discussion of the film and what incest is all about. Discuss the points in the film about how to protect your child, how to affect legislation and see what law enforcement is doing. Complete a simple questionnaire. You will also make the film available for purchase on-line to your guests so they may each host their own showing. We are also looking for people that wish to become a statewide coordinator and organize hosts throughout the State you reside. What you will receive! A copy of the award winning film, an autographed poster, a certificate of appreciation, a full press kit, membership to the STOP INCEST FOUNDATION and future issues of all newsletters and press release. Why should you become involved? First, you are helping the children by educating the public. You are also helping to make available educational grants to non profit organizations and to film makers that will be producing future films about incest and to fund the production of Public Service Announcements that will be shown on television, radio and the Internet regarding this important topic. This is possible with the sales of the film with all profits going to sustain the projects.STORIES NEEDED:It has been great that many of you have gotten the word out that we are looking for stories from people who have suffered with incest as a child. We continue to look for stories from adults that have experienced incest. We are looking for daughters/sons who are willing to relate their story with the father/mother that was the molester. These stories will become part of a documentary entitled “Secrets.†We can also use stories from people that do not wish to be part of the documentary and we can use their stories in a study guide we are developing to augment our documentary or as a stand-alone usage. We have a number of college professors wishing to use the film as part of their class. Attached is a copy of the form we are using to solicit stories. You may make copies and distribute them.VOLUNTEERS TO WORK FROM HOME AND HELP THE ORGANIZATIONWe need volunteers. This is a large undertaking. Volunteers are needed in many areas. Helping create and distribute a newsletter, contacting local media, contacting legislatures and helping set up host presentations. We need help with our website, making my space pieces and You Tube. If you have any type of skill or time we can use you.CALL 303-400-5227

DIRECTOR'S NOTESBarraged with a daily onslaught of media alarm over a growing army of child sexual molesters who were raping, kidnapping, and murdering children, I decided to do something to help prevent these attacks on our kids. I began with the premise that if I could find several pedophiles who would agree to be interviewed on camera and show their faces, these same molesters could be the key to teach parents how to better protect their children from these same predators.I ran into dead end after dead end in my search to find "hero" rapists but what I began to learn was that my premise insofar as child molestation was quantitatively misguided. The main origin of child abuse was not some stranger but was actually family members and trusted family friends.Yes there are strangers who molest our kids but they account for only 5% of the incidences. 95 times out of a 100 the offenses are done by dads, and uncles, and grandfathers, and often by our religious ministers. In a word, the real crime we need to address is INCEST. Wow! what a rude awakening! And why I asked was no one speaking up, how is such a terrible secret kept by so many of us? Why is nothing said? Nothing done? Why are lawmakers ignoring the facts. After all The U.S. Department of Justice has published this information, its right on their web site for heaven's sake!Naturally I changed my approach and began to identify all the players in this drama and look for those who would be willing to speak openly about committing the crime, can this behavior be changed, what does law enforcement , experts, victims, survivors, lawmakers, treatment providers, and how does the average citizen look at this problem. While I failed to reveal the minds of stranger predators, I was successful in finding Incest molesters who came forward undisguised and told us graphically how they violated their own children. I found survivors willing to talk about what this awful violation affected their lives to this very day.I had the history of Incest detailed by the world's foremost psychohistorian and learned from those involved with treating incest molesters, what more needs to done. There is hope, we can better protect our children but we need to stand up and bring this dark deeply held secret into the light so that we can change it. INCEST A Family Tragedy can tell you what we need to do and how to better protect your children while doing what must be done.
