Derek Usher, solo guitar, songwriter & production

About Me

Derek has twenty years experience and has recorded on over 11 different albums and projects. When he started his musical journey at the age of fifteen playing bass for the punk rock band Noble Savage, he knew he had found his Calling. Shortly before his seventeenth birthday Noble Savage came to an end, as most first bands do. It wasnt long before he realized the limitations of writing on bass guitar without a band. So he took up guitar to fill the gap. Over the following years Derek experimented with a wide variety of styles including metal, folk, blues, funk and classic rock.

For the last four years Derek has been playing lead guitar with She Says Electric. In the little spare time this has left him he has developed a sizeable repertoire of finger style acoustic songs and his fans who have heard it have demanded that he record a solo album. Dereks acoustic technique and style appears to be a total contrast to his intense electric playing, but it springs from the same experimental seed. Combining unusual alternate tunings, flowing chordal melodies and harmonic tappingaccents, he is constantly pushing the boundaries of what a guitar can do.

Derek has not only developed a style that is recognizable and unique, he has collected a vast array of gear to help his creative process flow. He is often referred to by other players as that guy with the massive pedal board. Derek has combined technology from over four decades in order to create a sound as diverse as his playing. High end modern guitars, early era digital processing, early 70s amplification and a fleet of stomp boxes give him the ability to create almost any sound he imagines in his head. And he does it all while using every inch of available stage space with his physical manifestation of creativity, providing his fans with visual energy as well as audio excellence.
