I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'll start first with some political non-sense, just because everyone should get their $.02 in, and that includes me.
When I started this page, I told myself I was going to keep it a politics free zone, because music is really my escape from having to think about all of that, constantly. But, I know there is too much at stake to be that selfish. So, I'm going to say a few things, just to get them off my chest. See my latest Blog, for more, and please feel free to leave a comment whether you agree or disagree.
I'll add a disclaimer, in case you vehemently disagree: Inclusion of any band in my list of friends does not mean that they agree with me, or that they even like the same music as me. It only means that they themselves make good music!
Now back to this "About Me" thing.
Truly this myspace page isn't about me, at all. It's about Music; and it's about Kansas, and having deep Kansas roots; and it's about all the good music that's been going on here, of late, and how much I love it.
For my top Friends I've chosen only Kansas musicians. This is because I think we have a lot of talent here, and it isn't getting the recognition it deserves. (I wish I could have more than 24 top ones, too. But, I have to rotate some good ones in and out.) There are so many stereotypes about Kansas, and that's so sad and unfair, and I'm more than a little tired of hearing all about it from people who've never actually been here.
I have been to almost every State in the Union, and I can tell you honestly that, for me, there truly is "No Place Like Home". Once you go away and come back, you realize it's not as bad as you thought it was. In fact, it's downright beautiful here!
Now on to my first love, Music. As a music lover, I get the most enjoyment from myspace by checking out all the good music, and I use the "Add Friends" button as a way of book marking the music I like the best. (My tastes tend to lean toward acoustic, folk, and a certain kind of rock (minus the screamers... I just don't get those guys and can't relate to it at all... call me old fashioned. It's ok, I grew up in the 70's!)
I've got sprinkles of bluegrass all around, because I really love that music. It touches my soul in ways other music doesn't. Perhaps that's because of my deep Kansas roots, and being in a musical family. (My Great Grandmother raised her kids on her own, after her husband died in the flu epidemic of 1919, by teaching "banjo, spanish guitar, and other fretted instruments" in Wichita, and later in the Ozarks.
Some of the bands have requested to join, but most are ones that I found on my own, listened to their music, and liked what I heard. Note: Some bands have requested to join who I really didn't like, at all, and I denied them. (I don't want anyone to think I like that crap, I guess.) Yet others are not all "that" good, but they have potential, or they just don't have good recording equipment, but they have lots of talent, so I keep those too. (I'm more likely to cut this kind of slack for a Kansas band, than one from somewhere else.)
I want the music links to reflect my own musical taste, because I do use the friends list to go back and listen again! It's not just a random bunch of friend invitations.
Genealogy is a hobby of mine, so in my spare time I've been working on a family history CDROM, and a book.
Here are some Ancestor Pics.

I also do photography and one of my favorite subjects is Kansas. Here's a small sample. I took all of these.

Range Burning begins in early spring. It's always hazy for several weeks. They don't burn it everywhere every year. They kind of take turns. A couple of weeks afterwards, the new grass is the most beautiful shade of green you've ever seen. From a distance, can tell where it was burned and where it wasn't, just by the different shades of green. (That 3-story stone barn belongs to the Z-Bar Ranch, which is now known as Spring Hill Ranch National Park Preserve. The horse was near where I had stopped to take pictures of the school house. When he finally looked up from eating, and noticed I was there, he was very eager to say hello. You should've heard him! So, I abliged him, and he insisted that I pet him and take his picture.)

I'd like to meet:

I'd love to be able to see all of my myspace music friends in person.
