About Me

Composer of new art music, jazz tunes and experimental pieces. Sheet music for some of the songs here can be viewed and printed from Maria Ljungdahl's pages at the publishing site SibeliusMusic.com , where you will find many other examples of compositions for different sorts of ensembles, both written for classical musicians and for improvisers.

PDF files of some pieces can be downloaded from maritune.com and MyScoreStore.com

Music videos can be watched at YouTube (maljharbour).

----

I have been interested in writing my own music since I was very young (5 or 6 years old) and was encouraged by my first piano teacher, Greta Westfelt (a student to Nadia Boulanger).

I am not active as a musician, but I can still sing if I want to. I have studied voice with Ing-Mari Landin , Hans Linden and Christina Gorne ; piano with Greta Westfelt, Denise Engman , Gunnar Borén, Hubert Szymczynski and Monica Hansson; composition with Ladislau Müller , Carl-Axel Hall , Per-Anders Nilsson and Michael Morse .

---

I studied musicology at the universities in Gothenburg and in Stockholm, and I also have a background from science, IT and engineering studies, and worked as a technician in nuclear physics (control room staff worker, not an engineer or scientist) for a couple of years in my youth.

----

I request, approve, refuse and remove Myspace friends for many and mysterious reasons! I add friends when there is something I like, in a text, piece of music, photo or connection. I refuse when I instantly dislike something about a profile, or when the request is from an uninteresting band with 50,000 friends. I sometimes remove friends when I have lost the interest or the connection. I also tend to hit the remove button when a friend has posted half a dozen bulletins on the same day, and none of them were worth reading.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: maritune.com
Band Members: Composer Maria Ljungdahl in Sweden, and various musicians from around the world. The recordings are either from performances or rehearsals of my pieces, or simple midi demos made with Sibelius notation software or a sequenser program.
Influences: Sounds of nature and the elements, sounds of living beings, sounds of culture and technology, sounds of musical instruments, sounds of recorded, preserved and processed sounds, sounds of notation, sounds of traditions, sounds of imagination and the mind, sounds of silence, sounds of movements and stillness, sounds of sensations and rhythms, sounds of forms and colours, sounds of noises and musics, sounds of logic and impulses, sounds of feelings and narrations, sounds of talking and walking, sounds of sailing and smiling, sounds of weather, sounds of light and darkness, sounds of the high and the low, sounds of memories and hopes, sounds of past, present, future and the until-much-later, any and many sounds, of sense and nonsense.

----

(Paintings, 2006-2007)
Sounds Like: Some pieces sound like they are, and are what they sound. Other pieces sound like the performers who interpret them. Most pieces are open for other sounds.

Wonderful is short

Frostnätter, höstvindar. En aning av snö mitt i ett regn idag. Dags att börja oroa sig för väglaget och mörkret. Tänder ett blockljus när det skymmer. Låter tiden gå. Försöker komma ihåg vad jag ville...
