The music on this space was recorded in live format at the church in Giresta, an hour's drive northwest of Stockholm, Sweden, on the 14th and 15th of October 2006. The locale was chosen specifically for its acoustics in an attempt to properly reflect our sound and dynamics, as were the recording techniques and production.
If you were to hear us in concert the result should be immediately recognizable - this is what we sound like! Not perfect, but passionate and intimate.
As we have made more than adequate room for spontaneous leaps, bounds and improvisations, these specific musical moments - hopefully spirited and vigorous, though their pursuit of perfection must certainly be in vain - will never be repeated as you hear them here.
TYP TRE is the name of a group consisting of an electrical guitarist, a mezzo soprano and a pianist, whose paths just happened to cross.
Maybe we played together for the first time at a party, or a small venue in Stockholm? Perhaps that is how musical encounters take place - randomly - and our common language is the music each of us carry within us?
Grethe wanted to sing 'Dido's Lament', and Daniel pondered what sounds might be used in a rendition of Purcell's aria. HÃ¥kan wanted to sing 'What a Wonderful World', and wrote an arrangement where he could join Grethe in the vocal line. Daniel wondered if HÃ¥kan would venture with him into the world of Klezmer music, and we took the plunge.
These things progress along the same lines wherever musicians meet and affection is mutual. We join in with our individual voices, our sounds and our respective experiences and influences. Paths cross, and musical encounters result. This is true whether we speak of big band, a rock band or a chamber orchestra. Or just a trio - Typ Tre.
Grethe Rottböll has been tutored by, amongst others, Professor Eric Saedén in Stockholm, and has since performed several operatic leading roles, as well as recitatives, oratorio and recitals as a guest soloist with numerous Swedish orchestras. She has also performed extensively with Håkan Sund. She made her debut as a novelist at 25, and has further written a second novel, award-winning children's books, as well as music and song lyrics.
Håkan Sund teaches piano at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, and has performed as a concert pianist in capitols in Europe, the United States and Japan. He is an experienced conductor, and has led the Swedish Radio Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the symphonies of Gothenburg, Malmö, Odense and others. He has also conducted the Swedish Radio Chorus, the Bach chorus, the famous Orphei Drängar men's chorus and numerous other choirs and opera companies. He has frequently appeared on televised concerts, and has an extensive discography.
Daniel Birgegård belongs to that large group of guitar players who cut their teeth on the virtuoso ideals of so called neo-classical heavy metal. His broad interest in music was furthered by private and formal studies in composition, musical theory and improvisation. Though the passionate and ferocious expression of rock and fusion will no doubt be an integral part of his style for years to come, he has come to embrace many styles of artistic and folk music, and struggles without surcease to incorporate as much as possible into his playing of all that his roving tastes will unearth.
