PLEASE NOTE (AGAIN): I DON'T IGNORE PEOPLE. SEVERAL FR:S HAVE MET WITH THE GOOD OLD "UNEXPECTED PROBLEM" BEFORE I COULD VIEW THEM.
PLEASE TRY AGAIN, AND WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMAN.
I used to have some pretentious twaddle about my goals and aspirations here.
Bottom line is I just want to improve as a player, and wish I had three lifetimes to do it in. Wish me luck.
My playing has for preference been within the realms of shred metal, which is where it began and where it will frequently return.
My interest in jazz fusion, classical and certain styles of folk music is given free rein when playing with the trio Typ Tre , and a composite of these and other styles I may chance upon is a pleasantly futile goal to nurture as I get on with the business of playing guitar.
Part Phrygian is not really a finished song, but maybe more than an ordinary jam. I named it as I did because there's a 7/16 groove in the phrygian mode throughout much of it. I'm using some other tonalities as well, naturally, and thus we have a moderately clever name.
If I sound a bit glum, well, I am. RSI - stay tuned for a depressing blog.
I hope you like it (the song, that is). The shreddy bit comes at the end, by the way.
Mayhem meets homage is a nod to my nodding acquaintance with Persian and Arabic music. I know far too little about these traditions to actually attempt playing anything in that vein, which is why I've thrown in rather more heavy riffing and wailing effects than are strictly necessary - I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea. Some sampled drums and a likewise sampled santur is as close to the real thing as I'll get right now, but with any luck, life is long.
Please note that Sand storm jam is too shreddy to be taken very seriously.
Flamenco Flash Flood was named for the clean first half, which borrows a bit of flamenco tonality but is naturally not meant to resemble real flamenco. The second half is the flash flood, which in a slightly overstated way blows the cover...This piece was improvised for Typ Tre's album Slow Down.
Dance Awry is basically an unorthodox take on Swedish folk music. Should you wish for a theme in this piece, think of a folk dance two centuries ago, where all is well for a minute or two, and then, tragically, ergot poisoning sets in...
Twice bitten... is just a piece of blues/metal shred. Actually two pieces, since the backing tracks were rather brief. This is sort of a before/after thing; the 'before' is what you're hearing, and the 'after' is what I'll record several years from now when I've listened to more of Jeff Beck. The atmospheric sounds in the middle are a glass of brewed condiment being filled and a cigarette being lit, in that order. I do hope that comes across properly for the sake of blues credibility...
All my upcoming concerts to date are with Typ Tre , and can be viewed at that space.
