About Me

When you cross classic rock with alternative roots, add a little funk, blues, folk and a big heap of jamming, and place it in a big bowl of psychadelia....well, you get Judge Weed.
The Weed was first started by Jimmy R, Fredy K and Brian Cunningham in 1992 as a means of artistic expression that was lacking in their day jobs as attorneys in NYC. With homage to the Grateful Dead, the Velvet Underground, Neil Young and the Meat Puppets, their original sound was labeled "Thrash Grass" by local critics and fit right into the grunge scene that was happening at the time. On any given Friday or Saturday night, you could catch the Weed jamming it out as audiences danced it out in the East Village at such places as the Levee, Baby Jakes and the First Street Cafe.
The weeders decided to take a break in 1994 when the local music scene was starting to change, and pursue other ventures and ideas. They reunited in 2002 with a vengeance and a shit load of life experience and began writing new songs that reflected this growth.
The full blessing came when drummer Stu Schneiweis and keyboardist Lowell Peterson joined the Weed, rounding off the JW vibe and the JW jammin' sound.
