In the 1990s, I was the lead singer for a punk band called Civil Disobedience, which later became Top Dead Center. In 2005, as a self-taught guitarist, I started a different musical project as Episode 81.
The name Episode 81 is based on the premise behind the character of Guy Fleegman in the movie Galaxy Quest. Only given the moniker of Creman 6, Guy's single claim to fame is an insignificant appearance in Episode 81 of the Galaxy Quest TV series where he is killed off by a lava monster before the first commercial break.In the movie, Guy is convinced that he is just a glorified extra whose character is so unimportant, that he is bound to bite it at any moment. In the end, his perceived insignificance gives way to the idea that he is actually an important part of the plot; he just didn't know it.The name Episode 81, then, simply pays homage to my perceptions of playing an inconsequential role in the greater plot of our daily lives with the idea that this line of thinking actually overshadows the probability that my character is actually more necessary than I truly know.The same rings true with you. Whether it comes in the form of humility or lack of confidence in our capabilities; we all may wind up relegating ourselves as being merely Crewman 6 in Episode 81.
