This is the first festival of its kind with music events being staged up and down the country throughout the month of April to raise money for the fight against world poverty.
Oxjam kicks off on the 1st of April (no joke) this year and continues for the whole rocking month. So whatever music you're into, from folk to funk, rock to rave - get involved now. We want people to know that anything you can do towards fighting the poverty and injustice experienced by people all over the world does help, and if that includes holding a heavy party raising cash and awareness for oxfams cause, so be it.
Make music, raise money and help end poverty with Oxjam.Visit the Oxjam website at www.oxfam.org.uk/oxjam for more details.
And remember
DON'T BE FOOLED BY WHAT YOU'VE SEEN ON T.V.
HIP HOP IS NOT....................
The proclamation of wealth through fast cars, gold chains, expensive liquor, huge mansions, yachts, clubs and designer clothing labels.
....A chance for otherwise unattractive males to surround themselves with attractive and predominantly naked models.
....An excuse to glorify gang violence.
....Something that exists with the sole purpose of making rich the empty celebrities who use the previous as a method of selling themselves.
....A race driven genre.
....Simple
HIP HOP IS...................
...A modern expression of ones opinions and feelings through complex vocal techniques, character, flow and word play.
....An appreciation of world music and variety with sampling from a wide range of genres including funk, soul, jazz, classical, rock, folk, reggae, ska.
....The reformation of punk in its purist form.
....Standing up for what you believe in and bringing to light the failings of society and its government to an ignorant mass media driven population who otherwise wouldn't know any different.
....life at its natural tempo.
....For everyone, whether you grew up on Coldharbour Lane or in Stubbington, Hampshire.
