I'm a musician, dj and filmmaker from the underground. Meaning I've been living this my whole life and make no compromise. I speak from heart and soul. My life is one big movie that hopefully you'll get to see one day. I hope to make a difference, make people laugh, smile and feel good about themselves and about life itself. I dream big ALWAYS. In fact, I have a tatoo on my arm that reads "All or Nothing." I also believe there's room for everyone on top and we should try to pull each other up the mountain. Here's a video for my band, Rise NYC. The song is called "No Harm" which was produced by Jim Sclavunos (of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), recorded by Peter Mavrogeorgis (of the Bellmer Dolls/Angels of Light) with additional programming by Supa DJ Dmitri (ex-Dee Lite). I directed/edited it and Elaine Benavides was the D.O.P. for our new music video company, Slice Productions. Additional live footage from CBGBs Gallery and the Hiro Ballroom was done by Layla and Sir Rexxx Black Vampyre. The dancers were shot by a second unit in Sweden and there are clips from 2 experimental films that I made in the early 90s: "Loomer" and "Sand". Hope ya dig! For more info, go to www.risenyc.com. Also check out my trip-hop/dub band www.myspace.com/binarystarrsystem and my own site www.diejmars.com.

The Video was done live at Lit Nightclub (NYC) for Heidi Bluegirl's "All Tomorrow's Parties" event in May 2006

My Interests

There was a time in my life when I took every nightschool course possible in highschool because I always enjoyed learning new stuff. These days, learning electronic instruments in and out + MIDI recording is what I'm into. I'm constantly working on a multi-media musical. I'm also interested in making short independent movies that are real and true to the bone. I'm not talking reality tv either. I plan my chaos in subliminal ways.

I'd like to meet:

I like to meet creative interesting people to go with my ADD. Mind you, I like to meet nice people too because there are too many negative ones in the universe. Positive is where I want to go.

Music:

Tough question. I guess because I'm a musician I always liked everything from Bad Brains to the Gun Club to Nick Cave to My Bloody Valentine, etc... Then because I'm a dj I always dug old industrial like Ministry, NIN and techno like Plastikman, Underground Resistance, happy hardcore etc... So, where does this leave me?I guess it leaves me where I am with my band, Rise NYC. I like dance-rock: groups like PWEI, Primal Screem, Dee Lite, EMF, Big Audio Dynamite, Curve--all the Manchester stuff from the early 90s/late 80s.

Movies:

After Hours, Jacob's Ladder, Up in Smoke, Dead-End Drive-in, Little Miss Sunshine, The Wizard of Oz, Wild at Heart, Un Chien D'Andalou, Corvette Summer, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, The Warriors, Poltergeist, Weekend, Forest Gump, The Brother from Another Planet, Morons from OuterspaceWhat can I say. I love Black Comedies and French New Wave.

Television:

Welcome Back Kotter! Happy Days, Sanford & Son, Pee Wee's Playhouse, Taxi, HR Puffinstuff, The Hilarious House of Frightenstein, Chico & The Man, Three's Company, Mork & Mindy, The Hardy Boys, The Twilight Zone...My life is all about 70s sitcoms. I live!! One of the greatest moments of my life was meeting Gabe Kaplan from Welcome Back Kotter.

Books:

Malcolm X, The Life Story of Miles Davis, The Big Book.

Heroes:

Mohammad Ali, Prince, Bruce Lee, Orson Welles, Gretzsky, Hendrix, Andy Kauffman, Scorsese, Elvis
