About Me

Millions of Ravers - One Love!
Hi, I'm Duncan, an old skool DJ and set blagger amongst other things, often going under the alias DJ Percy. I play dance music, from girly NY garage to nose bleed acid techno, and have a special love of vocal house.
Being a good talker, and tidy on the decks with a stupidly large vinyl collection, has allowed me to play to the the cool and the beautiful all over the UK and Europe. I've met many amazing people on the journey, and it ain't over yet.
I first tried to play two records at once in 1990, after seeing some early hip hop DJ's in New York mashing it up for the body poppers in the street. Then rave exploded in the UK and the next few years are a bit blurry. All it took was one good tune and one good pill. My long term love affair with dance music, DJ's and ravers began. Obsession, Fantazia, Universe, Dreamscape, Helter Skelter.............we did 'em all. One tribe, under canvass, in exstacy. Convoys, secert rendezvous, illegal parties, horns and whistles, and mucho spliff. Good times. Great afterparties. Very underground. Nice.
I first played out in autumn '92, driven in the back of a Transit to a tent in a muddy field somewhere in Somerset. I dropped fat grooves, the crowd jumped and glosticks swirled in the night. It don't get any better. DJ Percy was born.
I've been lucky. I've got to play all over the place, in some of the finest venues with many of the top DJ's. There's nothing like playing to a full room, dropping a big tune and seeing the party people go nuts. For me the two highest points were being asked to be an Obsessed resident, and playing at Pacha in Ibiza. That is the dream.
Respect to Mike "the bike" Berry from Obsessd, and Matt Caseli from Pacha's funky room, for giving me the decks at some of the finest club and festival events going. Also David Hopkins for arranging for me to do two live radio mixes in Spain in 2000, as well as some fine parties.
After 11 years of playing out, I parted with my 1210's in 2003, to a fantastic lady DJ Zoid. After 4 years cold turkey, I couldn't resist a pair of Vestax decks I saw in a second hand shop last year. Sooo pleased I kept the vinyl :-) mixing is such a great buzz. Once again, I'm playing lil house parties and helping some keen young DJ's learn the vinyl skills.
Still love finding new music, it just keeps getting better. Give me something I haven't heard before and I'm a happy bunny. If it'll mix, double pleasure!
There are plenty of old Ibiza photos coming, and I am busy finding lots of old friends. I hope to make some new ones along the way too.
As to what happens next........a return of DJ Percy, set blagging, world tour perhaps? Now there's a thought.
Peace and love people.

My Interests

Good conversation, decent food and drink. Seeing my friends. DJ'ing. Being chilled, dancing in my bedrom(still), mixing new vinyl. Love to get away from UK just to meet new people (and DJ if the chance arises). Making sure I go to work each day and do a great job, simple stuff really.
For now, work is at home - which makes the commuting easy!

I'd like to meet:

In general:
Cool people, no attitude, sense of humour, maybe into dance music and the rave scene, or just out for a bit of fun. Any DJ's for those conversations about decks, amps, mixers, venues, tunes and labels that bore others to death. A strong intelligent skinny woman would be an amazing find(you'll know who you are!). Anyone with a good question. Anyone with a good heart.
Wish List
For interest:
Tony Benn - Noam Chomsky - Gordon Ramsay - Bill Gates - Germaine Greer - Alexander Shulgin - Richard Branson - Alan Sugar - Ewan McGregor - more to come....
For the music:
The Hartnol Brothers - Paul Van Dyk - Mary Anne Hobbs - Pete Tong - Franlie Knuckles - Dave Clark - John Kelly - Danny Bukem - Jocelyn Brown - Kraftwerk - Jose Padilla - Carl Cox - Annie Lenox - Sister Bliss - Jose Nunez - Kirsty Hawkshaw (for her positivity - I'm becoming a convert) - Mark Ronson - The Orb - David Morales - Trevor Nelson.....more to come

Music:

Too much to mention but when I look back at my earliest music buys, (Kraftwerk - Autobahn, Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells, The Emotions - Best of my Love, J.M.Jarre - Oxygene, Sugar Hill Gang - Rappers Delight, Emerson Lake and Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery) I guess moving on to a love affair with dance music, in all its forms, was inevitable.

Movies:

Most sci-fi, even the rubbish. Still love teen movies and spoof horrors. Any good action movie. Clever comedy. French/Spanish language movies (for the learning). Not much on romance (but...I'm only human), bored of the rings and don't do harry potter films.

Television:

Guilty pleasure would probably be University Challenge. Addicted to the West Wing. Skins has been amazing, really well written! Currently catching up with Studio 60 and really enjoying Chuck on virgin 1. Heroes is back whoopeeee! Anything with Gordon Ramsay cos he's so rude. All sci fi (yep, even the rubbish).Hate soaps, reality shows, property bollocks, and Ant and Dec!

Books:

No, not really. For me, the written word goes straight from eye to memory, but completely swerves the pleasure centres in my brain. If there was one, my favourite book would be "reeding fore bigginnerses".

Heroes:

Frankie Knuckles - Pete Tong - Dave Clarke - Easygroove - Mike Berry from Obsessed (for never ever giving up) - Mary Anne Hobbs - Annie Nightingale - Seb Pitman - My Mum. ...more to come
Special mention for Richard Haslock, who lent me his decks and taught me the basics.
