Millions of Ravers - One Love!
Hi, I'm Duncan, an old skool DJ and set blagger amongst other things, often going under the alias DJ Percy. I play dance music, from girly NY garage to nose bleed acid techno, and have a special love of vocal house.
Being a good talker, and tidy on the decks with a stupidly large vinyl collection, has allowed me to play to the the cool and the beautiful all over the UK and Europe. I've met many amazing people on the journey, and it ain't over yet.
I first tried to play two records at once in 1990, after seeing some early hip hop DJ's in New York mashing it up for the body poppers in the street. Then rave exploded in the UK and the next few years are a bit blurry. All it took was one good tune and one good pill. My long term love affair with dance music, DJ's and ravers began. Obsession, Fantazia, Universe, Dreamscape, Helter Skelter.............we did 'em all. One tribe, under canvass, in exstacy. Convoys, secert rendezvous, illegal parties, horns and whistles, and mucho spliff. Good times. Great afterparties. Very underground. Nice.
I first played out in autumn '92, driven in the back of a Transit to a tent in a muddy field somewhere in Somerset. I dropped fat grooves, the crowd jumped and glosticks swirled in the night. It don't get any better. DJ Percy was born.
I've been lucky. I've got to play all over the place, in some of the finest venues with many of the top DJ's. There's nothing like playing to a full room, dropping a big tune and seeing the party people go nuts. For me the two highest points were being asked to be an Obsessed resident, and playing at Pacha in Ibiza. That is the dream.
Respect to Mike "the bike" Berry from Obsessd, and Matt Caseli from Pacha's funky room, for giving me the decks at some of the finest club and festival events going. Also David Hopkins for arranging for me to do two live radio mixes in Spain in 2000, as well as some fine parties.
After 11 years of playing out, I parted with my 1210's in 2003, to a fantastic lady DJ Zoid. After 4 years cold turkey, I couldn't resist a pair of Vestax decks I saw in a second hand shop last year. Sooo pleased I kept the vinyl :-) mixing is such a great buzz. Once again, I'm playing lil house parties and helping some keen young DJ's learn the vinyl skills.
Still love finding new music, it just keeps getting better. Give me something I haven't heard before and I'm a happy bunny. If it'll mix, double pleasure!
There are plenty of old Ibiza photos coming, and I am busy finding lots of old friends. I hope to make some new ones along the way too.
As to what happens next........a return of DJ Percy, set blagging, world tour perhaps? Now there's a thought.
Peace and love people.
