FACTS: Digital Venus
Hi :-) And welcome, thank you, I feel honoured! To show off my good intentions I put my best suit on :-) Yup, Digital Venus is me, Erik, a Norwegian journalist who has been working in Norwegian papers and broadcasting since the early seventies. This "venus'ian" project is some kind of a hobby and should NOT be taken too seriously.
MEMBER: Erik Meyn and the UMI
So...yes, Digital Venus is really me, who am permanently employed as a TV-director in Norwegian Broadcasting in Norway during "daytime". I have been using synths and computers since the early eighties. My first sequencer was the BBC microcomputer model B with the UMI 2B sequencer from UMUSIC in London. This is "old stuff". Four of those exotic machines were in use in Tromsoe, Norway, at the time, one by my friend and pioneering multi musician Nils Johansen in Bel Canto and Vajas. The most prominent user of the UMI was Vince Clarke (Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure). You can actually see Vince Clarke operating the good old UMI 2B sequencer in this video clip:
Though I started in the eighties with sequencers, I cannot play a single instrument. I push the buttons for a hobby ;-) And if anything, I am a "words person", having more fun with the lyrics than anything else. My career with words started as early as 1973, in the newspaper Aftenposten (Evening paper), Oslo. The less "serious" part of Digital Venus is the tracks where I (Erik) am doing the vocals...
MIXED VENUS: Pro's and amateurs
Tracee Lewis Meyn contributes on certain songs, as does my brother Ulf Meyn. Both Tracee and Ulf are more professional than me. Tracee as a long time singer, composer and vocal instructor and Ulf as educated classical guitarist. And although Digital Venus is not "top priority" for any of them, it's cool that they participate on some tracks from time to time. Because, as Tracee says; "Whatever you do as a singer or musician; Don't loose the joy" :-)
Tracee and Ulf are both on MySpace now, Ulf with the artist name of Lightshapes :-) Please look at "friends" and use the mouse :-)
Tracee Lewis Meyn contributes on these songs:
"Stepping up the ladder" - lead vocals and vocal harmonies
"The abyss of your soul" - lead vocals
"Positive is negative" - lead vocals, vocal harmonies, vocal instruction
"Take me to Brazil" - lead vocals
"Creepy" - lead vocals and vocal harmonies
"Common time" - lead vocals and vocal treatments
"The hummingbird way" - lead vocals
Ulf Meyn contributes on these songs:
"Solskinnsdag" ("A sunny day") - guitars and co-writer
"Creepy" - guitars, you'll find it on the Lightshapes' profile page
If you care to listen to one of the tunes, please do use the link for the lyrics as well. We have recorded the songs on home equipment and I, for one, am a native Norwegian. It won't hurt if you read the words while you play the music.
